  • Publication number: 20080065448
Abstract: A method and system for generating a workflow graph from empirical data of a process are described. A processing system obtains data corresponding to multiple instances of a process, the process including a set of tasks, the data including information about order of occurrences of the tasks. The processing system analyzes the occurrences of the tasks to identify order constraints. The processing system partitions nodes representing tasks into subsets based upon the order constraints, wherein the subsets are sequence ordered with respect to each other such that all nodes associated with a given subset either precede or follow all nodes associated with another subset. The processing system partitions nodes representing tasks into subgroups, wherein each subgroup includes one or more nodes that occur without order constraints relative to nodes associated with other subgroups. A workflow graph representative of the process is constructed wherein nodes are connected by edges.

  • Publication number: 20080048640
Abstract: Methods for detecting and classifying loads on alternating current (AC) lines are provided. One such method includes the steps of placing an AC field sensor in AC electric and magnetic fields generated by an AC line, generating an electric field signal representative of the AC electric field received by the AC field sensor, generating a magnetic field signal representative of the AC magnetic field received by the AC field sensor, generating a relative phase signal representative of relative phase changes between the electric and magnetic fields, and processing the relative phase signal to detect and classify loads on the AC line. In another method, relative load vector signals representative of relative magnitude and phase changes in the magnetic field are generated and processed to detect and classify loads on the AC line.

  • Publication number: 20070112867
Abstract: A method for identifying clusters of similar documents from among a set of documents is described. A particular document is selected based on rank from among a ranked set of documents, wherein the ranked set of documents are included among available documents of the set of documents. A probe is generated based on the particular document. The probe comprising one or more features. Documents that satisfy a similarity condition are found from among the available documents using a search based upon the probe. Some or all documents found are associated with a particular cluster of documents. The process can be repeated to generate further clusters. The method can be implemented with a computer, and associated programming instructions can be contained within a compute readable carrier.

  • Publication number: 20060064010
Abstract: An improved probe guide and probe guide system for use in conjunction with a medical imaging device is disclosed. The medical imaging device may be any type of imaging device that generates a cross-sectional image of a portion of a patient's body in a single image plane, such as, ultrasound, CT, or MRI imaging devices. The probe guide allows maintaining the movement of the probe within the image plane and accurate placement of a probe, such as a biopsy needle, by allowing a range of angular translation of the probe. The probe guide system enables extrapolation of the penetration path of the probe held by the probe guide and superimpose it on to the cross-sectional image allowing the medical personnel to view the penetration path of the probe within the patient in advance.

  • Patent number: 6995242
Abstract: A method of extracting and fractionating collagen-rich proteinaceous materials and derivatives from poultry skin tissue and the development of the proteinaceous materials to collagen-based protein ingredients that can function as meat replacer, texturizer, binder/filler, stabilizer, or protective colloids in processed meat products. The insoluble and soluble collagen products, collagen-based protein ingredients, water-dispersible collagen-based protein ingredients are produced by heating, separating, and rapidly cooling the solid-phase below its melting temperature to exploit reformation of the helical forms which produces a high concentration of coils, a phenomenon that accounts for its ability to form cold-set thermal reversible gels and gel strength.

  • Patent number: 6885985
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for generating translations of natural language terms from a first language to a second language. A plurality of terms are extracted from unaligned comparable corpora of the first and second languages. Comparable corpora are sets of documents in different languages that come from the same domain and have similar genre and content. Unaligned documents are not translations of one another and are not linked in any other way. By accessing monolingual thesauri of the first and second languages, a category is assigned to each extracted term. Then, category-to-category translation probabilities are estimated, and using said category-to-category translation probabilities, term-to-term translation probabilities are estimated. The invention preferably exploits class-based normalization of probability estimates, bi-directionality, and relative frequency normalization.

  • Patent number: 6670809
Abstract: A magnetic sensing transducer device that senses low frequency magnetic fields by using flux concentrators that modulate the observed low frequency signal, thereby shifting this observed signal to higher frequencies and minimizing 1/f-type noise. This is accomplished by the oscillatory motion of a microelectromechanical (MEMS)-type magnetic flux concentrator operated with a magnetic sensor, preferably made on a common substrate. Such a combined device can be used in a magnetometer. Such a device is small, low-cost and has low-power-consumption requirements. The magnetic sensor can be a Hall effect or other type of magnetic sensor. At least one MEMS-type fabricated flux concentrator is used with the magnetic sensor. The concentrator oscillates at a modulation frequency much greater than the observed magnetic field being sensed by the device.

  • Patent number: 5555134
Abstract: A refractive lens element (16) with a very thin edge thickness is mounted to withstand gun shock loads by utilizing a cell cradle (14) that is contoured to conform to the lens element surface profile (24). The lens is employed in a system having a rectangular clear aperture (26) which when projected on the circular lens defines four lens segments (36a-36d) outside of the clear aperture. The cell cradle has an opening (26) conforming to the clear aperture and carries a compliant padding (40) coextensive with the lens segments outside of the clear aperture to support the lens axially. The lens perimetrical edge (20) is bonded to the cell with a compliant bond material (44) to secure the lens in a radially symmetric position.

  • Patent number: 5444797
Abstract: An automatic script determining apparatus automatically determines the gross script-type of the text image of a document. A connected component generating means generates connected components from the pixels comprising the text image. A bounding box generating means generates a bounding box surrounding each connected component. A centroid determining means determines a centroid for each bounding box. A script feature determining means determines the locations, relative to the centroid, of one or more predetermined types of features, for each bounding box. A script determining means determines a distribution of the located script features for the entire text image, and compares the determined spatial distribution to predetermined distribution for at least one script-type to determine the script type of the text image.
