Publication number: 20130120594Abstract: An apparatus to enhance digital image files includes at least a digital image file editing capability and may also include a digital image file capture capability. Upon capture of a digital image file, an editing module allows the digital image file to be enhanced by adding information as desired by the user such as context information and subject matter information. The information to be added may be received by the apparatus through a voice interface or a text interface and then converted (if necessary) for storage as metadata associated with the digital image file. The metadata can be stored in a field or in association with a tag that is part of the digital image file format.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2011Publication date: May 16, 2013Inventor: David A. Patent number: 7621776Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a housing including a front, a rear, a top, a bottom, a left side, and a right side, and a printed circuit board carried by the housing and carrying electronics for operation of the wireless communication device. The printed circuit board defines a plane, and a socket is disposed in the housing and connected to the circuit board. The socket is configured to allow substantially perpendicular receipt of a removable memory device relative to the plane defined by the printed circuit board, in a manner such that the socket defines a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane defined by the printed circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: Kyocera CorporationInventor: David A. Patent number: 6390402Abstract: A tape cartridge has a front face sized for compatibility with an industry standard tape drive, and has sides longer than the sides of some industry standard cartridges. The sides and top of the housing extend outwardly in width to form a back portion of the cartridge that is wider than the front portion and prevent the cartridge from being inserted into non-compatible tape drives. Two large diameter tape hubs improve the empty hub to full pack diameter ratios, and improve the resulting tangential drive force and tape tension profiles as the tape moves between the hubs. Flanges are permanently bonded to the hubs to prevent the tape packs from shifting and a spring biases the hubs against the baseplate. A back set of rollers includes a high-drag roller that engages the drive belt at a fixed wrap angle and produces a relatively constant drag. A front set of rollers includes a drive roller and has rollers mounted to form substantially equal geometries with rollers in the back set respective to the tape hubs.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2001Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Verbatim CorporationInventors: David A. Krula, Don Stanley, Thi Ho, Anthony Arce

Patent number: 6032895Abstract: A tape cartridge has a baseplate surrounded by a housing. Two hub pins are disposed within the housing substantially perpendicular to the baseplate. Each pin has top and bottom portions and a collared portion therebetween. The bottom portion of each pin is press-fitted into a mating aperture in the baseplate with the collared portion bearing against the baseplate. A large diameter tape hub is rotatably mounted on the top portion. The collared portions allow the hub pins to withstand heavy side loads without significantly deflecting from the perpendicular. Two large diameter tape hubs are rotatably mounted around the hub pins and improve the empty hub to full pack diameter ratios, and improve the resulting tangential drive force and tape tension profiles as the tape moves between the hubs. A back set of belt rollers includes a high-drag roller that engages the drive belt at a fixed wrap angle and produces a relatively constant drag.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1998Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Verbatim CorporationInventors: David A. Patent number: 5542593Abstract: A tape guide for operation in contact with the back side of magnetic tape exhibits an increase in the coefficient of friction between the tape guide and the tape with increased wear of the guide surface associated with repeated passes of tape in sliding engagement over the tape contacting surface of the guide. The resulting increased frictional drag on magnetic tape with wear of the tape guide improves overall performance by reducing instantaneous speed variations (ISV) in the tape attributable to translational vibrations in the tape over the life of the tape and tape guide. The tape contacting surface of the tape guide includes a metal alloy including copper zinc, nickel and lead that may be integrally incorporated into the tape guide or plated thereon at least in the tape contacting region thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1994Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: Verbatim CorporationInventors: Leif Skaar, Kenneth Sheppard, Donald Stanley, Hossein A.
