    Abstract: Computer systems and computer implemented methods are provided for managing memory in a database management system. The computer memory is partitioned into a plurality of buffer caches, each of which is separately addressable. One buffer cache is set aside as a default buffer cache, while the other buffer caches are reserved for specific data objects meeting certain predefined criteria. Those objects meeting the predefined criteria are stored in reserved buffer caches where they are likely to remain for a relatively long period of time (in comparison to data objects stored in the default buffer caches). A buffer cache may have a plurality of memory pools, each of which contains multiple storage blocks. The storage blocks in a given memory pool are identically sized, while the storage blocks in one memory pool are sized differently from the storage blocks in another memory pool.

    Abstract: A computer-based method and system for generating and compressing a plurality of universally unique identifiers (UUIDs). The bits of the UUIDs are ordered from left to right. The system maintains a counter with bits ordered from a high-order bit to a low-order bit. To generate a UUID, the system increments the counter. The system then sets the right-most bits of the UUID to a node identifier, sets the next right-most bits of the UUID to a clock sequential/variant value, and sets the left-most bits of the UUID to the bits of the counter wherein the left-most bit of the UUID is set to the lowest-order bit of the counter so that sequentially generated UUIDs tend to have the same values in their right-most bits. The system then compresses these UUIDs using a suffix compression technique.

    Abstract: A unique system to insulate and retain the cold temperature of products, liquids, or materials of any type or nature. In the preferred embodiment, the system comprises a series of layers of material as follows: (1) a hard, durable plastic layer of polyvinyl chloride or similar material; (2) a layer of retardant aluminum; (3) a layer of styrofoam; (4) a layer of neoprene; (5) a cavity which is filled with dry ice through an input valve at the top of the system and which is purged through an escape or purge valve at the bottom of the system; the layers completely surround and envelope the cavity such that one closed system is created.The system could be made in any of many shapes and sizes to accommodate various industries, for example, the system constructed in the outer shape of a beer keg could constitute a jacket, which would be removable with hinges and buckles to keep kegs cold for up to 96 hours without refrigeration or ice.
