  • Publication number: 20040112116
Abstract: Wear of a rubbing member of a triction couple, such as an iron brake disc (15), which is subject to slow wear by frictional engagement by brake pads (17), is determined by attaching a carrier member (25) of wear determining arrangement (24) to the rubbing surface of the disc by electromagnet (28) and causing a transducer (33), such as magnetic displacement sensor having probe (33/2), to s an across the surface along a track (48). After an initial scan to map the surface the carrier is removed and re-attached after a period of brake usage, whereupon the surface is scanned again and wear assessed. The carrier is provided with feet (26/1) and biassed by a resilient electromagnet mount against the surface.

  • Patent number: 6750163
Abstract: Melt processable, flushable polymer fibers and methods of making melt processable, flushable polymer fibers are disclosed. The fibers comprise poly(ethylene oxide). Preferably, the poly(ethylene oxide) is modified by grafting polar vinyl monomers, such as poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, onto poly(ethylene oxide). The modified poly(ethylene oxide) has improved melt processability and can be used to melt process poly(ethylene oxide) fibers of thinner diameters.

  • Patent number: 6747443
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to trim current limit (Ip) and frequency (f) to maintain a constant maximum power. In one aspect of the invention, a power supply regulator having a peak current limit detection threshold and an operating frequency is disclosed. The peak current limit threshold or the operating frequency are adjusted specifically to maintain the Ipm·fn product substantially constant from one power supply controller to another where m is substantially equal to 2 and n is substantially equal to 1. In another aspect of the invention, the power supply regulator has a control circuit having a control threshold current. The peak current limit threshold or the operating frequency are adjusted specifically to maintain the product of Ipm·fn divided by the control threshold current substantially constant from one power supply controller to another where m is substantially equal to 2 and n is substantially equal to 1.

  • Publication number: 20040105127
Abstract: Disclosed is a method (1900) of forming a printable representation of a document (1800) having framed content (1808). The method includes recording (1904) the position, height and width of each frame of the document in a display widow in which the document is presented. The dimensions of a printing medium associated with the printable representation are also identified. A height of content of each frame is determined and, for each frame, a record of any corresponding dependency frames, each dependency frame being above the frame in the display window;. The records are then interpreted to establish a display order of the frames.

  • Publication number: 20040103595
Abstract: A system for quickly erecting an integrated building exterior shell. The building shell has a structural frame (10) of linear ferrous members with an I shaped cross section (10), whose flanges (10a) lie in the plane of the building shell. The open space between the structural members is filled by sliding in a snug fitting wall panel composed of core (12), exterior sheet (11), and interior sheet (13). The flanges (10a) and web (10b) physically secure wall panels in place by gripping it at the slots (15), thereby eliminating the need to use fasteners.

  • Publication number: 20040106416
Abstract: In a telecommunications system such as a global mobile telephone network in which each subscriber unit includes a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM card), each SIM card has fixed memory locations, to which data can be addressed over the air. Some of the locations can not be overwritten from the subscriber unit but can be accessed therefrom on the entry of short simple codes, each associated with one of the locations. Further fixed memory locations can be read over the air only when the subscriber enters a personal identification number. Locking control files are used to control read/write access to the locations respectively.

  • Patent number: 6741585
Abstract: An address interworking system and method for an internetwork that includes a first network using first network addressing communicating via one or more internetworking gateways with a second network using second network addressing. The gateways register one or more first network addresses in the second network as first network address-encapsulated or- mapped second network addresses. Reachability information regarding the first network-encapsulated or -mapped second network addresses is then disseminated through the second network. When a communication request containing a first network destination address is received from the first network at one of the gateways, the receiving gateway performs encapsulation or mapping of the first network destination address into a first network-encapsulated or -mapped second network destination address.

  • Publication number: 20040097148
Abstract: A blister fabric of a knit or woven construction may be needle punched to produce internal connections of filaments or fibers from yarns extending into, and/or between, the yarns of an adjacent layer. Interconnections of fibers among separate layers are produced by needles which enter a first layer and then carry fibers from the first layer to a second adjacent layer within the blister of the fabric. Such interconnected fibers which bridge or span multiple layers in the fabric serve to strengthen the blister fabric, making the fabric more resistant to abrasive forces.

  • Publication number: 20040098699
Abstract: An integrated circuit, in which one or more internal parameters may be automatically configured for a particular application, includes a plurality of program select pins, each being in a predetermined fixed state, and at least one configuration pin associated with a parameter to be adjusted. Jumpers on the system board to which the integrated circuit is mounted connect the mounting pad of each configuration pin with the mounting pad of a selected program select pin. Consequently, when the integrated circuit is mounted on the system board, each configuration pin receives a selected value which internal configuration circuitry detects and causes the corresponding parameter to be adjusted accordingly. Any of the program select pins may have functions in addition to the configuration function. When the system board is powered on or undergoes a reset, a processor internal to the chip scans each the configuration pin to determine its value.
