Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for assisting individuals with communication are provided. In particular, methods, devices, and systems are provided for decoding words and sentences directly from neural activity of an individual. Cortical activity from a region of the brain involved in speech processing is recorded while an individual attempts to say or spell out words. Deep learning computational models are used to detect and classify words from the recorded brain activity. Decoding of speech from brain activity is aided by use of a language model that predicts how likely certain sequences of words are to occur. In addition, decoding of attempted non-speech motor movements from neural activity can be used to further assist communication. This neurotechnology can be used to restore communication to patients who have lost the ability to speak and has the potential to improve autonomy and quality of life.

Abstract: Provided are methods of contextual decoding and/or speech decoding from the brain of a subject. The methods include decoding neural or optical signals from the cortical region of an individual, extracting context-related features and/or speech-related features from the neural or optical signals, and decoding the context-related features and/or speech-related features from the neural or optical signals. Contextual decoding and speech decoding systems and devices for practicing the subject methods are also provided.

Abstract: A document console comprising an upper member secured to a housing. The housing comprises side walls that are removably attached from one another thereby facilitating the manufacture, storage, and assembly of the console. The console comprises features and members that confer anti-static properties onto the console, thereby facilitating the removal of paper-based documents from the console. The console further comprises safety features that serve to maintain the security and the integrity of the documents within the console.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention provides an insert for receiving and securely retaining an article. The insert includes a base section, a lid section and a ribbed hinge section that couples the base section with the lid section. The base section receives the article and includes a plurality of corners. The base section includes a plurality of elevated portions and a recessed portion. The plurality of elevated portions are positioned adjacent to the plurality of corners of the base section, and each of the plurality of elevated portions include a locking mechanism that are configured to selectively couple the lid section to the base section to retain the article between the base section and the lid section.
