  • Publication number: 20240124676
Abstract: A improved method of additive manufacturing of a recycled granulate is provided. The method comprises providing a starting article. A shredder shreds the starting article to give a shredded product. A granulator shreds the shredded product to give a recycled granulate. The recycled granulate is fed into an additive manufacturing machine. The additive manufacturing machine prints a printed article using the recycled granulate. The method does not comprise a step of compounding the recycled granulate using a twin screw extruder. The starting article, the shredded product, and the recycle granulate each comprise a fiber reinforced polymer composite.

  • Publication number: 20240066793
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an article is provided. The method includes feeding a polymeric material into an extruder including a nozzle, and feeding a continuous fiber into the extruder, the continuous fiber and the polymeric material together forming a molding compound. A three-dimensional preform is formed by discharging the molding compound from the nozzle onto a deposition surface. A mold charge is formed by positioning the three-dimensional preform within a mold that includes a top mold component and a bottom mold component. The mold charge is compression molded within the mold to form a finished article.

  • Patent number: 4486268
Abstract: A method and apparatus especially adapted to produce a ply separable web requiring substantially less energy input for drying. The apparatus comprises a headbox having at least three stock flow channels, at least one of which being adapted to convey conventional aqueous stock solutions and at least one other channel adapted to convey airborne fibers. The resulting web, having a significant portion of the fibers in a dry state, requires less energy to dry, and the distinct layers provide shear zones therebetween which permit ply separation upon creping. Different fiber types may be provided in different layers depending upon product attributes desired, and the products may be conventionally dried or may be throughdried. An alternative embodiment requires the mixing of airborne fibers with an aqueous solution adjacent to or within the headbox, producing only surface wetting of the fibers and reduced inter-fiber bonding.

  • Patent number: 4358342
Abstract: A papermaking headbox with adjustable rigid slice lips especially adapted to permit deflection of the slice lips on a headbox utilized with a twin wire or crescent forming papermaking machine. The headbox comprises elongated slice lips extending into the forming zone located between converging papermaking wires or fabrics, the slice lips being substantially rigid in construction and affixed at their rearmost ends to headbox support members. One or both of the slice lips may be provided with a full width machined channel into which the actuating means in the form of relatively inflexible bellows are positioned. These metal bellows are in turn connected to a fluid supply means which cause a small axial movement only. The fluid supply means is adapted to supply a fluid under pressure of at least 1,000 pounds per square inch to the bellows, such that upon actuation of the bellows, the slice lip will be deformed, thereby restricting the slice opening.
