  • Patent number: 9732681
Abstract: A turbo-generator system generates electricity from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine 1. The electric current generated by the generator 11 (e.g. a switched reluctance machine) is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a first pre-set rotational speed. The amount of electric current demanded from the generator 11 is limited or reduced if the electrical system 17 cannot accept a greater electric current or if the exhaust gas pressure upstream of the turbine 3 is too great. In such cases, the proportion of the exhaust gas permitted to bypass the turbine 3 is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a second pre-set rotational speed that is slightly greater than the first. The turbine's preset speeds are chosen to maximize electrical generating efficiency and for turbine safety. The system maximizes the amount of electricity generated, avoids excessive exhaust gas back-pressure on the engine 1, and avoids overloading the electrical system 17.

  • Publication number: 20170214788
Abstract: A system and method for discouraging the in appropriate use of a mobile device including registering a mobile device with a monitoring application running on a system coupled with a network. A mobile device is linked with the monitoring application through the network. The operational status of the mobile device is monitored to detect if a change occurs in the operational status. A change in the operational status of the mobile device is reported to the monitoring program with time information and the status change is displayed in a graphical interface, and a notification message is sent to a system user. Beacons might also be implemented to advise a device user to disable a mobile device to be monitored.

  • Publication number: 20170178667
Abstract: Technologies for identifying sounds are disclosed. A sound identification device may capture sound data, and split the sound data into frames. The sound identification device may then determine an acoustic feature vector for each frame, and determine parameters based on how each acoustic feature varies over the duration of time corresponding to the frames. The sound identification device may then determine if the sound matches a pre-defined sound based on the parameters. In one embodiment, the sound identification device may be a baby monitor, and the pre-defined sound may be a baby crying.

  • Patent number: 9437188
Abstract: Systems and methods for assisting automatic speech recognition (ASR) are provided. An example system includes a buffer operable to store sensor data. The sensor data includes an acoustic signal, the acoustic signal representing at least one captured sound. The system includes a processor communicatively coupled to the buffer and being operable to store received sensor data in the buffer. The received sensor data is analyzed to produce new parameters associated with the sensor data. The buffered sensor data is processed based at least on the new parameters. The processing may include separating clean voice from noise in the acoustic signal. The processor is further operable to provide at least the processed sensor data (for example, the clean voice) to an ASR system operable to receive and process the processed sensor data at a speed faster than real time. The new parameters may also be provided to the ASR system.
