  • Patent number: 8205768
Abstract: A lid and container assembly includes a container having a rim portion that defines a container opening, and a lid having (i) a cover portion positioned over the container opening, and (ii) a skirt extending from the cover portion and positioned circumferentially around the rim portion. The skirt defines an interior facing surface and an exterior facing surface. The skirt includes a sealing band extending from the interior facing surface positioned in contact with the rim portion. The sealing band defines a vertex along the extent of the sealing band. The vertex possesses (i) a first height at a first circumferential position of the sealing band, and (ii) a second height at a second circumferential position of the sealing band. The second height is greater than the first height. Height of the vertex asymptotically increases as the sealing band extends from the first circumferential position to the second circumferential position.

  • Publication number: 20120043326
Abstract: A container and closure assembly includes a container and a closure. The container defines an opening and includes a lip positioned around the opening. The closure includes a top portion defining a periphery, a skirt, a first and second blocking structure, a tab, a plurality of spaced apart first ribs, a plurality of spaced apart second ribs, and a plurality of first rib extensions. The skirt defines an internal closure space and including (i) a first skirt portion extending downwardly from the periphery, and (ii) a second skirt portion extending downwardly from a first part of the first skirt portion. The second skirt portion includes a first side edge and a second side edge that are spaced apart from each other to form a gap. The first blocking structure is secured to the skirt. The tab extends downwardly from a second part of the first skirt portion and is positioned in the gap.

  • Patent number: 7942286
Abstract: A lid arrangement for a container comprises a peripheral portion surrounding an integrally formed central portion. A first scored portion defines a boundary between the central portion and the peripheral portion. A second scored portion is also formed in the central portion. The second scored portion extends substantially parallel to the first scored portion and a strip is formed in the central portion between the first scored portion and the second scored portion. A tab member is connected to the strip of the central portion. The tab member includes a handle that protrudes from the upper surface of the central portion. When a threshold force pulls the handle of the tab member away from the central portion, the strip separates from the peripheral portion along the first scored portion.

  • Publication number: 20100270306
Abstract: A container and closure assembly includes a container defining an opening and having a lip positioned around the opening. The assembly also includes a closure configured to be attached to the container. The closure includes a top portion defining a circular periphery, and a first skirt portion extending downwardly from the circular periphery to form a cylindrical structure defining a first internal closure space. The closure also includes a second skirt portion extending downwardly from a first part of the cylindrical structure. The second skirt portion has a first side edge and a second side edge that form a gap. A tab extends downwardly from a second part of the cylindrical structure and is positioned in the gap. A first vertex segment is attached to the second skirt portion, and a second vertex segment is attached to the tab.

The skirt includes a sealing band extending from the interior facing surface of the skirt and positioned in contact with the rim portion of the container. The sealing band defines a vertex along the extent of the sealing band as the sealing band extends around at least a part of the rim portion of the container. The vertex possesses (i) a first height at a first circumferential position of the sealing band, and (ii) a second height at a second circumferential position of the sealing band. The second height is greater than the first height.

  • Patent number: 5806710
Abstract: This invention provides a container and closure lid particularly suitable for packaging semi-solids and liquids which are to be frozen. The closure lid fits entirely into the mouth of the container, providing no easy method of removal absent use of a pull tab which incorporates a tamper-evident frangible pin. The closure lid incorporates a generally flat sided seal skirt which mates with a U-shaped seal channel on the container inner wall surface to prevent leakage past the seal skirt and a locking ridge having a flat top which mates with a locking ledge face on the container inner wall surface adjacent the container mouth. The seal skirt snaps under and is covered by the locking ledge to provide no purchase along the lid edge. The container seal channel not only provides part of the sealing mechanism of the invention but also prevents translation of the lid toward the container bottom while the container locking ledge prevents translation of the lid toward the container mouth.
