Publication number: 20130277059Abstract: A bypass assembly for use in a downhole tool comprises a chamber, a first fluid port in fluid communication with the chamber, a second fluid port in fluid communication with the chamber, a flow restrictor disposed in a first flow path between the first fluid port and the second fluid port, a piston moveable in a first direction by the application of a first fluid pressure, a biasing member, and a restraining member disposed adjacent to the piston. The biasing member biases the piston to move in a second direction opposite the first direction, and the restraining member is actuated by movement of the piston in the first direction in response to a predetermined fluid pressure. Movement of the piston in the second direction to a predetermined position configures the bypass assembly to divert fluid flow around the flow restrictor along a second flow path.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2012Publication date: October 24, 2013Applicant: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Luke William Holderman, David Smart

Publication number: 20090024058Abstract: A device for the collection of oral fluid from a subject's oral cavity may include a sample-collecting mouthpiece and a one-way valve. The mouthpiece may include a collecting chamber, introducible into the oral cavity of the subject for collecting oral fluid, and a resiliently deformable wall section defining at least part of the collecting chamber such that compression of the resiliently deformable wall forcibly expels a collected fluid from the collecting chamber via a collecting chamber outlet. The one-way valve may be in fluid communication with the collecting chamber outlet and may allow fluid to be displaced from the device following compression of the resiliently deformable wall but prevents ambient air flowing back through the valve into the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2006Publication date: January 22, 2009Applicant: Inverness Medical Switzerland GmbHInventors: Raphael Blowick, Attracta Roach, David Smart, Sarah Noonan

Publication number: 20070063621Abstract: A telemetry unit (100) is provided for mounting inside a pneumatic tyre. The unit (100) includes a piezoelectric power generator for supplying power to the unit (100). A piezoelectric element (114) is supported in a housing (112) with an actuator 136 arranged for contact with the element (114), to deflect the element (114) in response to external forces acting on the actuator (136) during rotation of the tyre. For every rotation of the tyre, cyclic pulses of electrical charge are generated by the deflection of the element (114). The charge is stored and utilised under a power consumption protocol to operate pressure and temperature sensors and to transmit data from the unit (100). The telemetry circuitry is mounted for movement with the actuator (136) and therefore contributes to the actuating mass acting on the element (114).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 1, 2003Publication date: March 22, 2007Inventors: Geoffrey Haswell, Simon Fawcett, Paul Holdsworth, Stephen Bowles, David Smart, Miguel Garcia-Hernandez, Juan Chavez-Dominguez, Antonio Turo-Peroy, Jordi Salazar-Soler

Publication number: 20060133784Abstract: In a photographic processing method, an image unit having a plurality of printable image frames is received. The image frames include a data frame having subchannel information. An indicator of the presence of the subchannel information is detected. A bitstream of all of the image frames is generated. Responsive to the indicator, the data frame is extracted from the bitstream and subchannel information is read from the data frame. Fulfillment of image frames of the bitstream is provided in accordance with the subchannel information. If no indicator is detected, then the image frames are fulfilled in accordance with a different, default subchannel.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2004Publication date: June 22, 2006Inventors: John Fredlund, Steven Sitter, William Peters, David Smart
