  • Publication number: 20060034737
Abstract: An air purifier (10) held in a housing (12, 14) with an ambient air inlet (16) and an air outlet (18) and defining an airflow path therethrough for treating ambient air, a filter (disposed in the airflow path and having an air permeable media for communicating air therethrough while retaining particles carried in the flow of air. A purification device attaches to an intermediate chassis in the airflow path for treating the air moved by a fan (70) into operative engagement with the purification device within the housing and out the air outlet. • Patent number: 6847481
Abstract: The slide handler is an instrument that automatically transfers glass microscope slides from a cassette or magazine to a motorized microscope stage and then returns the slide back into the second cassette. The use of this instrument permits the unattended computer control, measurement and inspection of specimens mounted to the slides. Full modular integration of the system components allows for the slide handler instrument to be utilized with any microscope. The instrument system has a minimum of three components; namely a slide cassette indexer, an XY-stage, and a slide exchange arm. The indexer, the arm and the XY-stage are connected together and integrated into one unitary modular instrument that can be moved from one microscope to another.

  • Patent number: 6591977
Abstract: The present invention relates to a conveyor and packaging apparatus, as well as packaging conveyance and packaging methods for irregularly shaped articles and packages, such as for packaged food products as in the case of conical packages for ice cream confections and the like. In the present invention, pairs of manufactured articles having irregular profiles are moved along a conveyor system. Each of a given pair of articles moves along an independent conveyor path toward a predetermined destination. Each article may undergo a change in alignment along its path such that it is in a preferred orientation upon leaving the conveyor system. In a preferred embodiment, pairs of conical articles are oriented with the narrow ends in opposing directions (interlaced) upon leaving the system so as to minimize the amount of space required for packaging of the two articles when placed adjacent one another.

  • Patent number: 5860079
Abstract: A block storage memory management scheme. According to the disclosed embodiments, a memory list of data is generated from a set of address ranges, a descriptor is created to interact with the memory list, and data is retrieved by preparing the memory specified by the descriptor for an input/output operation, performing the operation, and deleting the descriptor. Memory mappings are delayed as long as possible to enhance the performance of the system, particularly for RAID applications.

  • Patent number: 5641009
Abstract: A cavity is charged with particulate material by positioning a predetermined quantity of the material in a box (140). The box has substantially the same horizontal cross-sectional shape as the cavity and is closed at the bottom by at least one door (78) on which the material rests. In order to level the material, the box (140) is moved to and fro horizontally a plurality of times with the energy imparted to the material being progressively reduced during the movements. The door (78) is then opened sufficiently rapidly that the particulate material falls out of the box (140) into the cavity substantially as a unit.

  • Patent number: 4530020
Abstract: A runout correction pattern is recorded on the peripheral track of the disk during the initial recording of the data stored thereon. The runout correction pattern comprises an integer number of sequentially recorded groups, each comprised of an increment of full track erasure, a like increment of high transition density automatic gain control information, a first burst of servo control information, and a second burst of servo control information. Previously necessary clock tracks are not incorporated. The bursts of servo control information are recorded "off-track" by one-half of the center line to center line spacing between adjacent tracks so that all first bursts are to one side of the center line of the track and all second bursts are to the opposite side of the center line of the track.

  • Patent number: 4491961
Abstract: Unprocessed video signals from an optical scanner are processed in accordance with a transfer function which adjusts the gain of the unprocessed video to produce processed video which better represents the form of the object scanned. The transfer function is selected from a memory including a plurality of such functions by a signature signal which characterizes the entire scanner system including the optical system, the illumination system and the sensor system. The signature signal is developed from an initial value of signature which is updated by processing with the unprocessed video.
