The method involves contacting a 1-nitro-3-substituted-3-amino-2-propanone with a reducing agent to form a mixture of 1-nitro-3-substituted-3-amino-2-propanol diastereomers. The 1-nitro-3-substituted-3-amino-2-propanol diastereomers are then separated by simulated moving bed chromatography to obtain one or more 1-nitro-3-substituted-3-amino-2-propanol diastereomer.

    Abstract: A sports safety helmet includes two way radio communications and integral external lighting. The helmet is particularly well adapted for use in sailing, where head protection from swinging booms, heavy lines, and other components is desirable, and where unassisted voice communication can be difficult due to noise from wind, waves, and rigging of the boat. The present helmet is also of value in other activities where head protection is important, such as skiing, climbing, etc., and is of value in many occupations as well. The helmet is preferably configured to have smoothly rounded contours devoid of any protrusions, in order to preclude catching or snagging on rigging, tree branches, or other articles during use. The integrated lighting is of great assistance for night sailing, skiing, climbing, or other activities engaged in at night or periods of low lighting. A collar may also be provided, depending from the lower rear edge of the helmet, to protect the wearer from water spray.

    Abstract: A compartmentalized transport refrigeration system having refrigeration control, and interconnected host and remote refrigeration units for respectively conditioning the air in front and rear compartments of a trailer. The trailer has front and rear doors for access to the front and rear compartments, respectively, and a door switch connected to the refrigeration control which modifies the operation of the refrigeration system when the front access door is opened. When the front access door is opened, the host refrigeration unit is operated in null and the remote refrigeration unit is cycled between heating and cooling modes. A door switch may also be provided for the second access door which modifies the operation of the transport refrigeration system by effectively turning the remote refrigeration unit off.

    Abstract: A signal processor for filtering unwanted narrowband noise from received wideband electrical signals also containing desired wideband noise is described. The signal processor includes means for partitioning the wideband received signal into a plurality of narrowband, noise-containing signals and for producing a plurality of narrowband output signals. The signal processor further includes means for monitoring each of the narrowband output signals and for reducing the voltage of any narrowband output signal when that signal exceeds a predetermined level. In the preferred embodiment, the monitoring means of the signal processor includes a plurality of voltage-regulating networks, wherein each network receives as a network input signal, a single one of said narrowband output signals into a detector and integrator network to produce an output command signal only when the voltage across a channel exceeds a predetermined level.

    Abstract: A building structure is provided with a conventional air conditioning unit and a solar energized air heater unit. Heated air is drawn from the solar unit and discharged into the structure in response to a thermostat. Means are provided for supplying heated air from the air conditioning unit when the supply from the solar unit is inadequate to maintain a predetermined minimum temperature. Radioscope means disconnect the solar unit from the system when available solar energy falls below a predetermined value. The structure may include a wall having air storage capacity therein for receiving and holding heated air from the solar unit, which air is subsequently delivered to the interior of the structure.
