  • Patent number: 10751117
Abstract: An end effector of an electrosurgical device may include a discharge port in communication with a first fluid path, an aspiration port in communication with a second fluid path, a first and second electrode, and a diverter in mechanical communication with the two electrodes. The diverter may receive, on its surface, a fluid emitted by the discharge port, and maintain a contact of the fluid with the first and second electrodes. The diverter may be further configured to prevent an aspiration, by the aspiration port, of the fluid on its surface. An electrosurgical device may include a source port in communication with a first fluid path, an evacuation port in communication with a second fluid path, a first and second electrode, and a housing. The device may include a shaft extending distally from the housing and the end effector as described above.

  • Patent number: 10660663
Abstract: A bone cutting surgical instrument includes features to mitigate heat generation during use. Excessive heat can be detrimental to bone health as well as to the instrument itself. In one example a liquid dispensing feature provides a flow of cooling liquid to an ultrasonic blade via a lumen in a waveguide of the instrument. In another example, the blade has a serrated edge with a plurality of teeth arranged in a pattern to provide dimension and space during cutting actions. In another example, the blade has an oversize distal portion that creates an oversize slot when cutting to avoid excessive contact between the cut bone and proximal portions of the blade. In another example the blade includes an irrigation slot and also a micro slot in a distal end of the blade that connects with the irrigation slot.

  • Patent number: 10278721
Abstract: In various embodiments, a surgical instrument is provided that may comprise an end effector for performing a surgical procedure on tissue, for example. The end effector may comprise a pair of jaws, a closure beam, and a cutting member. The closure beam and the cutting member may be releasably coupled together by an interlocking member such that movement of the cutting member may cause the closure beam to also move relative to the jaws and cause the jaws to close and grip tissue, for example. The interlocking member may then unlock, allowing the cutting member to move through the gripped tissue and relative to the closure beam. Additionally, the cutting member and closure beam may be operated by a single trigger, which may be configured to provide haptic feedback to a user at various stages. Further, the jaws may be electrically energized to deliver energy and/or seal the gripped tissue.
