  • Publication number: 20180372639
Abstract: A solid fluorescence standard that can be used to calibrate and/or normalize a device (e.g., a scientific instrument) that is configured for generating and collecting fluorescence data. A fluorescence standard disclosed herein includes an adhesive (e.g., a low viscosity, substantially optically transparent, solvent-free, radiation curable adhesive, such as, but not limited to, a UV curable adhesive), and a selected quantity of fluorescent particles (e.g., quantum dots) dispersed in the adhesive. The adhesive and the fluorescent particles are mixed together and disposed in a sample well. The adhesive is then cured and solidified, which yields a solid fluorescence standard in the well.

  • Patent number: 9802200
Abstract: Tools and methods are provided for removing a plurality of tubes from a rack of tubes. Tube rack tools include a base and/or top piece for receiving the rack of tubes. The base has a support surface for engaging the closed bottom of the plurality of tubes. The support surface can be curved such that the rack of tubes can be rocked about the curves support surface to dislodge the plurality of tubes from the rack. The top piece can be configured to engage the rack such that pressure on the top piece in the direction of the support surface applies a pressure on the rack without applying the pressure to the tubes. The tubes are dislodged from the rack by application of the pressure. Elements of the tube rack tool are also configured for securing the tubes within the rack or caps to the tubes.

  • Publication number: 20140157110
Abstract: A browser extension relates to a Web application such as QuickBooks Online that manages data records, for example, data records about sales transactions. The extension allows a user to store, at a different Web server or other repository, supplemental records relating to particular data records of the Web application; for example, the user, when displaying a sales-transaction data record in the Web application's display window, could attach and/or view a scanned copy of the physical invoice document for the transaction, even if the Web application does not provide that capability natively. When the user is displaying data from the Web application's data record concerning that sales transaction, the browser extension displays, in an auxiliary display area, information about the supplemental records for that transaction's data record, such as (for example) the number of scanned documents “attached” to that data record, and allows the user to view copies of documents on the screen.

  • Patent number: 8698693
Abstract: A collapsible antenna (10) comprises an elongate boom (12) having a main axis (14) and a plurality of elongate radiating elements (16) having respective first ends (18.1) and respective second ends (18.2). At least some of the elongate radiating elements are flexible and are mounted at the respective first ends to the boom in longitudinally spaced relation. Regions towards the respective second ends of the at least some of the elongate radiating elements engage a flexible rope (20). The flexible rope forms part of a frame (22) which is manipulatable relative to the boom between a first collapsed configuration and a second operative configuration wherein the at least some radiating elements are in an operative configuration relative to the boom.

  • Publication number: 20090296525
Abstract: A method for determining presence of seismic events in seismic signals includes determining presence of at least one seismic event in seismic signals corresponding to each of a plurality of seismic sensors. A correlation window is selected for each of the plurality of seismic signals. Each correlation window has a selected time interval including an arrival time of the at least one seismic event in each seismic signal. Each window is correlated to the respective seismic signal between a first selected time and a second selected time. Presence of at least one other seismic event in the seismic signals from a result of the correlating.

  • Publication number: 20080010967
Abstract: In a method for generating energy in an energy generating installation (10) having a gas turbine (12), in a first step, an oxygen-containing gas is compressed in a compressor (13, 14) of the gas turbine (12), in a second step the compressed gas is supplied, with the addition of fuel, for combustion in a combustion chamber (15), in a third step the hot flue gas from the combustion chamber (15) is expanded in a turbine (16) of the gas turbine (12) so as to perform work, and, in a fourth step, a branched-off part stream of the expanded flue gas is recirculated into a part of the gas turbine (12) lying upstream of the combustion chamber (15) and is compressed. A reduction in the CO2 emission, along with minimal losses of efficiency, is achieved in that carbon dioxide (CO2) is separated from the circulating gas in a CO2 separator (19), and in that measures are taken to compensate for the efficiency losses in the gas turbine cyclic process which are associated with the CO2 separation.

  • Patent number: 7182090
Abstract: A system for cleaning components of one or more water retaining devices (e.g., tubs) includes two pumps, a tank, one or more supply valves, a water retaining device, and control circuitry. The pumps control the flow of a concentrated cleaning agent and water to the tank. The tank stores the cleaning agent and water as a diluted cleaning solution at a desired pressure, and selectively dispenses the diluted solution to the tub(s) through appropriate piping. The supply valve(s) controls the flow of cleaning solution to components of the tub. The tub includes a water propulsion device (e.g., jet) configured to facilitate efficient cleaning of the propulsion device's various surfaces. The control circuitry controls the operation of the pumps and preferably the supply valve(s) in accordance with a predetermined cleaning procedure. The system may optionally include an outflow device to prevent premature evacuation of the cleaning solution from the tub's components.

  • Publication number: 20060207082
Abstract: A tool and method for winding and forming a field coil for field assembly, such as a stator, includes separable tool halves defining a winding cavity therebetween. The winding cavity receives magnet wire that is wound therein, such as by rotating the tool or a winding nozzle. The magnet wire generally conforms to the shape of the winding cavity such that when the tool halves are separated, a field coil having a net shape is produced. Once the magnet wire is sufficiently deposited within the winding cavity, wires of the coil may be bonded together either through a resistive heating process such as by passing an electrical current through the coil or through other heating or chemical bonding methods to thereby maintain the net shape of the field coil once it is removed from the tool.
