  • Patent number: 7144356
Abstract: An adjustable, web-folding system for folding a web substrate. The adjustable web folding system has an adjustable folding detour and at least one sensor for measuring a characteristic of a web substrate. A surface of the adjustable folding detour, or the folding detour, is adjustable in response to the value of the characteristic of the web substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 2002
Date of Patent: December 5, 2006
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
    Inventor: David Alan Harnish
  • Patent number: 6848566
Abstract: An apparatus for changing the spacing between discrete articles having at least one linear motor disposed radially from a central axis, and a pick-up disposed proximate to the linear motor. The at least one linear motor is capable of adjusting the radial position of the pick-up with respect to the central axis so that an article is transferable from a first surface to the pick-up, the at least one linear motor adjusts the pick-up radially from the central axis, and the article is transferable from the pick-up to a second surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 2003
Date of Patent: February 1, 2005
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: David Alan Harnish, Amy Christine Charlton, David William Slack

  • Patent number: 6773387
Abstract: An elongate rail for an equal path folder that has a hollow tube having a a longitudinal axis and a vacuum applied thereto, and a first and second substantially planar surfaces parallel to the longitudinal axis and forming a folding edge therebetween. The hollow tube has at least one opening positioned angularly away from both the first and said second surfaces. The vacuum causes a negative pressure to be applied to the opening so that a web substrate passing over the first and second surfaces has at least a portion of the vacuum applied to a face of said web substrate when said web substrate is proximate to at least one of the first and second surfaces thereby substantially reducing particulate matter build-up on the folding equipment and substantially reducing the undesirable particulate matter left on the out-going web product.
