  • Patent number: 9720018
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for the measurement of power consumption at points of interest, such as circuit breakers, machines, and the like. Accordingly, means are provided for measurement of power consumption for each electrical sub-network that is controlled by a circuit breaker. Each apparatus is enabled to communicate its respective data, in an environment of a plurality of such apparatuses, to a management unit which is enabled to provide finer granularity power consumption profiles. Challenges of measuring relatively low supply currents, wireless operation in an environment of a large number of apparatuses, and self-powering are addressed.

  • Patent number: 5631957
Abstract: Near-end echo-reduction is achieved by passing a transmit signal through a first filter bank and feeding a remote signal plus an echo of the transmit signal through a second filter bank, then subtracting a gain-coefficient-compensated (scaled) version of the filtered transmit signal from the filtered-composite-remote signal to obtain an echo-reduced receive signal. The echo-reduced receive signal is suitably employed by tone decoders, voice response mechanisms, and the like, in a telephone system, and avoids false alarms due to near-end echo. In one embodiment, the gain coefficients are fixed for each frequency of interest. In another embodiment, the gain coefficients are dynamically arrived at based on the filtered transmit signal and the echo-reduced receive signal. The two filter banks can be combined in one, multiplexed filter bank.

  • Patent number: 5541967
Abstract: Modems at ends of a transmission line are synchronized with each other by a training procedure which initiates each of a plurality of communication sessions occurring while a connection between the modems is established. The initial communication session begins with a long training sequence. Ensuing communication sessions utilize a time-saving short training sequence which includes the following. A coarse timing algorithm establishes synchronization on a symbol boundary from two alternating elements transmitted in accordance with a standard and of which a plurality of amplitude samples are taken. A fine timing algorithm then quickly finds the peak point of the symbol so that the sampling instance can be adjusted accordingly. This is accomplished by identifying, which sample of an element represents the maximum amplitude between the elements. A comparison is made between the identified sample and its preceding one for that element, and the identified sample and its succeeding one for that element.

  • Patent number: 4862427
Abstract: A continuous-transmission frequency-modulated (CTFM) scan converted sonar with improved capability for detecting swimmers, miniature submarines and other small intruders in harbors and inlets, and adjacent offshore structures. The system is microprocessor based and menu driven from an operator interactive touch screen. The system utilizes a fast fourier transform (FFT) based frequency analyzer for range discrimination. An area moving target indicator (AMTI) portion of the system cancels echo returns from stationary objects that otherwise mask the echo return of the moving targets. The AMTI causes the system to survey the search area for a number of consecutive scans and store the data. On successive scans, only target information that differs from the stored target map is displayed, thereby reducing clutter caused by surrounding terrain.
