  • Patent number: 11370049
Abstract: Methods for welding a particle-matrix composite body to another body and repairing particle-matrix composite bodies are disclosed. Additionally, earth-boring tools having a joint that includes an overlapping root portion and a weld groove having a face portion with a first bevel portion and a second bevel portion are disclosed. In some embodiments, a particle-matrix bit body of an earth-boring tool may be repaired by removing a damaged portion, heating the particle-matrix composite bit body, and forming a built-up metallic structure thereon. In other embodiments, a particle-matrix composite body may be welded to a metallic body by forming a joint, heating the particle-matrix composite body, melting a metallic filler material forming a weld bead and cooling the welded particle-matrix composite body, metallic filler material and metallic body at a controlled rate.

  • Patent number: 10775962
Abstract: A user interface overlay is presented over a native graphical user interface (GUI) of a device. By way of example, the overlay can include a graphical presentation layer (GPL) that can selectively mask and/or expose functionality of the native GUI of the device. In addition, the GPL can bundle disparate portions of native functionality in accord with one or more logical associations between a title, tag, application, purpose, type, or like qualifier, associated with the disparate portions. In addition, user preferences and device/network intelligence components can dynamically customize portions of the GPL to match a location, locale, mood, or setting or like situational context of a device and/or user.

  • Patent number: 8074869
Abstract: A reactive foil is used to assemble the components of rock bit cutters and to affix cutting elements to rock bit bodies. A small pulse of localized energy ignites the foil in a fraction of a second to deliver the necessary amount of heat energy to flow solder or braze and form a strong, true metallic joint. The reaction in the foil may be activated using optical, electrical, or thermal sources.

  • Publication number: 20100302233
Abstract: An underwater diving simulation system includes at least three surface electronics units defining a diving area in proximity to a desired dive location. Each surface electronics unit includes a microprocessor-controlled transceiver that receives x-y-z position data from an underwater acoustical transponder located on a diver who is located in the diving area. The system provides user selectable, variable underwater virtual reality data to the diver via a communication link. A plurality of sensors in proximity to the diver's head transmits real-time rate of change, horizontal and vertical position of the diver's head to a signal decoder located on at least one of the surface electronics units via said communication link. A pair of projectors and optical elements are typically provided, one for each of the diver's eyes on a diving mask.
