    Abstract: The present invention comprises systems and methods for the distribution of digital media, programs, works and other data (Content). One embodiment of the invention relates to a portable, processor-enabled, non-volatile memory storage device (Storage Device) used to store and transport Content, a processor-enabled playback device (Playback Device) that interfaces with the Storage Device to view Content stored on the Storage Device, and a freestanding, affixed, and/or integrated kiosk device (Kiosk Device) with an independent, on-board drive array or arrays, or a Local Area Network-connected drive array or arrays, or other large capacity data storage memory structures (Drive Arrays) used to access and load Content to the Storage Device. In one embodiment, the Kiosk Device has access to several million Content files on a large number of Drive Arrays. In one embodiment, the Playback Device contains the same functionality as a Kiosk Device, accessing Drive Arrays via the Internet.

    Abstract: This invention comprises a method and apparatus for the distribution of stored digital data files (Content). It's a kiosk device (Kiosk) which stores motion pictures, audio, video, multi-media, interactive media, etc. stored as Content for distribution to a Portable Data Storage Device (PDSD). This process loads a Drive Array(s) with Content creating a Content library, and associating the Drive Array(s) with a Kiosk(s). This makes the data immediately available for delivery to a PDSD without internet latency. Millions of titles are available for delivery to their PDSD via linking multiple local Drive Arrays through a LAN connection to multiple Kiosks and their on-board Drive Arrays on the LAN. Upon Content loading to the PDSD, the Kiosk generates a license object file containing the viewing parameters and permissions (License Object) associated with the Content file. The License Object is loaded to the PDSD along with the associated Content File.

    Abstract: This invention innovates storage, transport, and viewing of digital data utilizing a Portable Data Storage Device (PDSD) and playback device (PD). The associated process may involve a variety of methods to load and retrieve data employing a License Object to manage multiple, flexible parameters. The user may dock the PDSD into the PD to connect a display (television, LCD panel, Projection Screens, etc.) The PD may be embedded in a viewing device, or another PD, or be a stand-alone PD. The License Objects for Content stored on the PDSD are also backed up to ensure that if the user loses/damages the PDSD, the lost PDSD can be disabled in the system, and a new PDSD purchased by the user with the active License Objects loaded to the new PDSD, preserve the rights associated with those License Objects.

    Abstract: The invention is a process and apparatus for securing and retrieving digital data with a Portable Data Storage Device (PDSD) and Playback Device (PD). The PDSD-PD employs software and hardware security and encryption as barriers to those desiring illicit access to the stored data. Data is prepared with a Digital Rights Management (DRM) application which assigns a license object to the data and encrypts it using a Private Key managed Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with 256-bit complexity. Private Keys are stored inside secured Field PGAs, PDSD, or PD. Another layer of AES encryption with 256-bit complexity is applied to the DRM license object using Public Key Infrastructure. Initial docking between a PDSD and PD initiates a sequence of routines and authentication. Interruption of the key exchange, authentication, or physical security measures may result in a lockout and/or the deletion of PDSD data. Potential applicable physical security measures are described.
