Patent number: 10595540Abstract: A barbecue oven for cooking foods includes a housing including a fire chamber and a cooking chamber. A duct connects the fire chamber to the cooking chamber for passage of heated air and smoke from the fire chamber to the cooking chamber. A vessel is receivable in the fire chamber and adapted to hold combustible material therein to generate heat and smoke for cooking food in the cooking chamber. A shutter assembly is mounted on the housing and manually operable to selectively permit a flow of ambient air directly into the fire chamber to facilitate combustion of combustible material in the vessel when the vessel is received in the fire chamber to generate heat and smoke for cooking food in the cooking chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2015Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: David B. Knight & Associates, Inc.Inventor: David B. Knight

Patent number: 10314433Abstract: An oven for cooking foods includes a housing having a fire chamber and a cooking chamber disposed generally above the fire chamber. A vessel is receivable in the fire chamber and is adapted to hold combustible material therein to generate heat and smoke for cooking food in the cooking chamber. A blower is mounted on the housing. The blower is selectively operable to move air. A tube is attached to an outlet of the blower and extends into the fire chamber such that when the vessel is received in the fire chamber the tube extends to a position adjacent the vessel so that air from the blower is blown directly into the vessel without first passing a heating element. The oven does not require supplemental heat from a burner or similar heating element.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2014Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: David B. Knight & Associates, Inc.Inventor: David B. Knight

Patent number: 9395092Abstract: An oven for cooking food includes a housing having a front, a back, a top, a bottom, and a cooking chamber in the housing sized and shaped for receiving the food to be cooked. The cooking chamber has a front, a back, an upper portion, and a lower portion. A heating source heats air in the housing. An air mover is mounted generally at the front of the housing for moving heated air in the cooking chamber to produce a more uniform temperature and heat distribution in the cooking chamber.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: July 19, 2016Assignee: David B. Knight & Associates, Inc.Inventor: David B. Knight

Patent number: 9200809Abstract: An oven for cooking foods includes a housing having a front, a back, a top, a bottom and opposing first and second sides. The oven further includes a vessel for holding solid fuel for cooking. A fire chamber in the housing is adapted for holding the solid fuel vessel. The housing includes a first movable closure at a location on the front of the housing mounted for opening and closing at a location to permit selective access to the solid fuel vessel in the fire chamber. A cooking chamber in the housing is adapted for holding food to be cooked by the oven. The housing further includes a second movable closure on the front of the housing mounted for opening and closing at a location to permit access to the cooking chamber.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2010Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: David B. Patent number: 8304696Abstract: An air circulator and an oven including such an air circulator. Ducting has an inlet located toward an upper end of a cooking chamber of the oven and an outlet proximate the lower portion of the chamber. An air mover can move air in the chamber though a fluid passage defined in the ducting from the upper portion of the chamber to the lower portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2009Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Inventor: David B. Patent number: 6810792Abstract: A barbecue oven having an internal firewall separating a cooking chamber and a fire chamber. The firewall has a generally arcuate shape that forms an upwardly tapered duct connecting the fire chamber to the cooking chamber along an interior wall. As configured, the cooking chamber has a generally elliptical shape that promotes the recirculating of the heat and smoke within the cooking chamber. The constricted throat of the aperture creates an accelerated current of heat and smoke directed into the cooking chamber. The heat and smoke is directed up the rear wall, then passes across the top of the cooking chamber, down the front, and is then entrained in the current from the fire chamber. Thereafter, the heat and smoke exit the cooking chamber through portals opening into exhaust ducts contained within the sidewalls. Electric heating elements are placed adjacent to an elevated, elongated vessel containing the solid fuel such as wood or charcoal.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: David B.
