  • Patent number: 10764109
Abstract: Instantiating a resource of an IT-service includes analyzing a service model of an IT-service, the service model including a node representing a resource for providing the IT-service. A resource type of the resource being indicated by the node is determined, and a resource manager being operable to instantiate the resource is identified. A resource-manager-specific API of the resource manager is identified, and at least one abstract method for instantiating the resource is overridden with a resource-manager specific method of the resource-manager-specific API. The resource-manager specific method for instantiating the resource represented by the node is executed.

  • Patent number: 10423457
Abstract: Outcome-based adjustment of a software-defined environment (SDE) includes determining a business operation and a corresponding set of tasks to be performed in a software defined environment (SDE), establishing a first resource configuration to perform the corresponding set of tasks to achieve a business outcome target, determining a first resource cost for performing the corresponding set of tasks, assigning a priority level to tasks within the corresponding set of tasks, determining a set of performance indicators corresponding to a task having a first priority level, monitoring the SDE to identify a triggering event, responsive to identifying the triggering event, establishing a second resource configuration based, at least in part, on a performance level of a performance indicator in the set of performance indicators, the second resource configuration addressing the triggering event, and determining a second resource cost for performing the corresponding set of tasks according to the second resource config

  • Patent number: 10216544
Abstract: A method and system for outcome-based adjustment of a software-defined environment (SDE) that includes establishing a link between a business outcome and a first resource configuration from software defined environment, establishing a monitoring mechanism for continuously measuring a current state of the SDE, using a behavior model of the SDE to anticipate, or forecast, a triggering event, and responsive to the forecast of a triggering event, using the behavior model to determine a second resource configuration to achieve the business outcome. The link includes at least one of a utility of services for the business outcome, a cost of a set of resources consumed by the first resource configuration, and a risk of the set of resources becoming unavailable.

  • Patent number: 10135669
Abstract: Instantiating a resource of an IT-service includes analyzing a service model of the IT-service where the service model includes a node representing a resource for providing the IT-service. The node has a generic API providing an abstract method for instantiating the resource. A determination is made whether the node is a multi-instance node representing a resource being instantiable multiple times. If so, a determination is made whether a first instance of the resource represented by the multi-instance node already exists in a runtime environment providing the IT-service. If so, a selection criteria is computed to identify and select a resource manager configured to instantiate a second instance of the resource based on collocation or anti-collocation parameters in the runtime environment. The abstract method for instantiating the second instance of the resource is overridden with a resource-manager specific method of a resource-manager-specific API specified by the selected resource manager.

  • Patent number: 9851933
Abstract: There is a method and system for capability-based resource allocation in a software-defined environment that performs the following steps (not necessarily in the following order): (i) determining a set of capability characteristics for a plurality of workload resources within a software-defined environment; (ii) determining a set of workload components for a specified workload; and (iii) identifying a set of workload resources from the plurality of workload resources to allocate to the specified workload based, at least in part, on the set of capability characteristics corresponding to each workload within the set of workload resources. A workload component of the set of workload components has a unique set of workload characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9787528
Abstract: Instantiating a resource of an IT-service includes analyzing a service model of the IT-service where the service model includes a node representing a resource for providing the IT-service. A resource type of the resource being indicated by the node is determined, and a service provider catalog is evaluated to determine a resource manager operable to instantiate the resource and an address of the resource manager. A request is sent to the address of the resource manager for a description of a resource-manager-specific API of the resource manager. Upon receipt of the requested description, at least one abstract method for instantiating the resource is overridden with a resource-manager specific method of the resource-manager-specific API, and the resource-manager specific method for instantiating the resource represented by the node is executed.
