In one aspect, a method includes displaying a first tab graphic in a first tab bar control, the first tab bar control being displayed at a first default position on a first edge of a touchscreen display, detecting a user selection in a first region of the touchscreen display, the first region associated with the first tab graphic, detecting user motion, animating the first tab bar control to extend from the first edge of the touch-screen display in response to detecting user motion, determining a measure of user motion, comparing the measure of user motion to a threshold measure, and performing one or more functions on the mobile device in response to the measure of user motion exceeding the threshold measure.

A portion of the articulation section encompasses the flexible portion of the waveguide. The articulation section comprises a plurality of body portions aligned along the longitudinal axis and a flexible locking member. The flexible locking member is operable to secure the body portions in relation to each other and in relation to the shaft. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade in acoustic communication with the waveguide. The articulation drive assembly is operable to drive articulation of the articulation section to thereby deflect the end effector from the longitudinal axis.

    Abstract: Universal linear components are provided. In general, a P input and Q output wave combiner is connected to a Q input and R output wave mode synthesizer via Q amplitude and/or phase modulators. The wave combiner and wave mode synthesizer are both linear, reciprocal and lossless. The wave combiner and wave mode synthesizer can be implemented using waveguide Mach-Zehnder modulator technology. This device can provide any desired linear transformation of spatial modes between its inputs and its outputs. This capability can be generalized to any linear transformation at all by using representation converters to convert other quantities (e.g., polarization, frequency) to spatial mode patterns. The wave combiner and wave mode synthesizer are also useful separately, and can enable applications such as self-adjusting mode coupling, optimal multi-mode communication, and add-drop capability in a multi-mode system.

    Abstract: A modified directional coupler structure is used to provide a controllable time delay or phase shift for radiation propagating through the structure. A longitudinal displacement of the interaction region of the directional coupler relative to one or both of the waveguides of the directional coupler provides this effect. Double flexure arrangements can be used to provide longitudinal displacement with substantially no corresponding lateral displacement (or vice versa). In some embodiments, lateral and longitudinal displacement of the waveguides of the directional coupler are independently adjustable to provide full control of the power splitting and phase shift/time delay of the directional coupler.
