  • Patent number: 5635662
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use by a personnel in combat unit to assess in bstantially real-time the threat to a combat unit posed by one or more threat projectiles. A command and control system receives a variety of input data and information signals and generates corresponding signals directed to a processing module. The processing module receives and processes the informational signals indicative of the status and characteristics of the combat unit and threat projectile. The processing module determines whether sample threat projectiles with an uncertainty region associated with each threat projectile detects the combat unit and determines therefrom a probability that the actual threat projectile detects the combat unit. The processing module also generates a probability of detection signals, to generate a report in user perceivable form, indicative of the probability of the threat projectile detecting the combat unit on a substantially real-time basis.

  • Patent number: 4619231
Abstract: The invention provides a system applicable to various internal combustion engines, such as for automobiles, motorcycles, snowmobiles and outboards, to permit an authorized person, such as a police officer, to prevent their improper or illegal operation. The engine includes a detector detecting the speed of operation of the motor which is compared with a preset value. Upon an unusually high motor speed being reached a receiver is enabled for a preset period of time. During this preset period the engine can be disabled by a transmission from a transmitter operated by the police officer, preferably using a designated exclusive channel. The disabling slows the engine to an idle speed without stopping it, so that the power assist mechanisms of the vehicle remain operative to maintain normal braking and steering function.

  • Patent number: 4616336
Abstract: A word processing system is provided with separate data structures in system memory (4). One of these, the internal image, contains the calculated graphics image and another the operator's alphanumeric character input. When displaying, the two images are merged together with the annotation overlay effectively overlaying the graphics overlay. In this way, if the operator erases something on the annotation overlay, the contents of the graphics overlay reappear. During the display of the calculated image and as the operator adds annotations to the display, overlaying conflicts between the graphics image and an alphanumeric character added by the operator are resolved in favor of the alphanumeric character. When an overlaying conflict does exist, the alphanumeric character is highlighted by video reversing to indicate that it is hiding a portion of the graphics image.
