  • Patent number: 6945788
Abstract: A socket is provided which has an insulative housing surrounding a metal substrate. The substrate has an array of apertures which are located in spatially arranged order to accommodate the precise pattern desired for the device to be connected. Contact assemblies include stamped and formed contacts having an insulative plastic molded over a central section of the contact. The molded inserts are receivable in the apertures of the substrate and are later swaged to retain them and the contacts to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5292260
Abstract: This invention is directed to an electrical connector, particularly an electrical ballast connector, that offers a reliable means preferably to extract electrical conductors therefrom. The connector comprises a dielectric housing having a plurality of cavities therein extending between a contact loading face and a conductor receiving face, where the conductor receiving face includes an aligned row of conductor openings of a like plurality, where each opening includes a lateral slot in communication with the cavities. A stamped electrical contact is provided within each cavity, where said contact includes a base and a pair of spaced apart arms upstanding therefrom, where the inner edge of a first arm is aligned with its corresponding conductor opening, and the other arm includes an angular extension directly downwardly and toward the first arm.

  • Patent number: 5173063
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing including a transverse body section and a shroud portion extending forwardly therefrom and defining a cavity, an array of pin contact members extending forwardly of the body section and within the cavity and at least one pair of closely spaced elongate members within the cavity. The elongate members extend to respective leading ends forwardly beyond the leading edge of the shroud portion and cooperate with the shroud portion and with each other to disallow inadvertent entry of a human finger into the cavity proximate pin contacts adjacent the elongate members. The pair of elongate members further provide aligning and keying means for the connector.

  • Patent number: 5161987
Abstract: A micro-strip type connector is disclosed having a one-piece receptacle ground bus. The connector includes two parallel rows of signal contacts, one row on each side of the ground bus, the signal contacts and the bus bar having solder tails that extend through plated through holes in a substrate, such as a printed circuit board, and are soldered in place there. The one-piece receptacle ground bus includes a flat vertically disposed root section, a plurality of first contact beams in a row and extending from the top edge of the root section and a plurality of members extending from the bottom edge which are bent around through 180 degrees to be parallel with the root section and extending upwardly to form another row of second contact beams, the two rows of beams converging. A plurality of solder tails extend from the bottom edge of the root section.

  • Patent number: 4966557
Abstract: An improved electrical contact element for use in connector housings. More particularly, the contact element includes a U-shaped retention section having one resilient leg extending obliquely outwardly. Further included is a resilient web in between and connecting the forward termination section and retention section to provide a degree of independent movement of the former relative to the latter.

  • Patent number: 4952172
Abstract: A stiffener device for use with electrical connectors. More particularly, the stiffener device includes a rigid L-shaped member having a groove in which an electrical connector is slidingly received and locking clips which are attached to the connector and frictionally received in a channel in the L-shaped member to prevent relative movement between the member and connector.

  • Patent number: 4716494
Abstract: A heat sink (60) having one or more cooling fins (64) along a central shaft (66) is securable to an active device substrate (12) by a spring clip (80) whose latch sections (92) are latched under latch projections (44) on side walls (40) of the housing (30) to which the substrate (12) is mounted. The bow-shaped formed wire spring clip (80) has arcuate inner sections (82) disposed against the central shaft (66) of the heat sink (60) and exerts spring force downwardly on a retention fin (68) of the heat sink (60) when latched to the housing (30), which holds the bottom surface (62) of the heat sink (60) against the top substrate surface (22) to create a thermal connection.

  • Patent number: 4655519
Abstract: An electrical connector for positioning between and electrically interconnecting electrical components. The electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having compartments and contact elements freely disposed in the compartments and having cantilever spring arms supporting conductive contact areas at the free ends thereof for electrical engagement with conductive pads or the like on the electrical components.

  • Patent number: 4648668
Abstract: A zero insertion force card edge connector for mounting on a backplane and receiving therein a daughter card whereby circuits on the backplane and card are electrically interconnected through contact members in the connector. More particularly, the connector includes cam members, slidably mounted between an upper and lower housing for driving spring arms on the contact members into engagement with conductive pads on thedaughter card. The cam members further move the upper housing downwardly, in cooperation with the spring arms which are preloaded in the connector, to remove restraining members which otherwise restrain the spring arms from entering the card slot and engaging the conductive pads.
