  • Patent number: 11639858
Abstract: A system for and method of indicating an angle of attack of an aircraft is provided. The system utilizes measurements from existing aircraft sensors so that a dedicated angle of attack sensor is not required. The system enables and benefits from a unique method that includes performing standard flight operations during a calibration flight. The system does not need any aerodynamic model of the aircraft because it utilizes information from the calibration flight to develop an estimated aerodynamic model of the specific airplane. The system utilizes the aerodynamic model and other information to estimate an angle of attack of the aircraft during flight. Finally, the system utilizes additional information to indicate the estimated angle of attack of the aircraft relative to an optimum angle of attack for the aircraft and/or a critical angle of attack of the aircraft. The system further enables recalibration, so as to accommodate aircraft aerodynamic modifications.

  • Patent number: 8458092
Abstract: Techniques are provided for transaction adjustment. A payment device, having an offline balance, is presented to an offline terminal in connection with a putative transaction. If an irregularity with the putative transaction is detected, the offline balance is adjusted responsive to the detection. In one aspect of the invention, such adjustment can be carried out, via offline-terminal interaction, substantially without the use of a security module and cryptographic keys in the offline terminal.

  • Publication number: 20130024363
Abstract: Techniques are provided for updating an offline parameter of a payment device having an online-capable application and a primarily offline application. The offline parameter can be a counter reflective of an offline spending balance. The same parameter can be shared between the applications, or cross-application visibility of the parameter can be provided. When a requirement to update the offline parameter is determined, the offline parameter can be updated substantially contemporaneously with an online transaction. The updates can be transparent to the user, allowing substantial duplication of the debit card and/or credit card experience with an offline payment device.

  • Patent number: 8209351
Abstract: A method for displaying data in an avionics communications system is disclosed. The method generates an ARINC 661 definition file and a user database from one or more user-defined inputs for a communications management function of an aircraft. To convey information relating the one or more user-defined inputs with at least one display of the aircraft, the method links one or more display attributes of the user database with the ARINC 661 definition file. Based on user interactions with the at least one display, the method updates display data of the at least one display using the contents of the ARINC 661 definition file and the user database.
