The mobile device contains a resource proxy for dynamically storing a set of resources that are available to the electronic device and that are location specific, e.g., accessible via a point that is near the electronic device. The resource proxy contains a resource table recording the available resources and a gateway table indicating a pathway for reaching the data. The resource proxy definitions are technology independent with respect to the communication mechanisms required to obtain the data. Resources are added to the resource proxy via a resource discovery mechanism automatically performed by the mobile device. Multiple network gateways can be defined and each is responsible for requesting and retrieving information for the resource proxy.

Abstract: A digital watermark is affixed to an existing image file prior to being copied onto a destination media. In one embodiment, the image file is encrypted using content scrambling system (CSS) encryption. In another embodiment, the image file is also compressed prior to being copied onto the destination digital video media. A unique identification code associated with an intended recipient may be embedded into the digital watermark. In one embodiment, this unique identification code is stored in a database, along with information particular to the intended recipient. In this fashion, the identity of the intended recipient of the destination digital video media may be determined.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a security state of a portable electronic device (PED), such as a personal digital assistant (PDA), are provided. A security state may be determined by physical or electronic characteristics of the PED. The relative position of PED pieces, the position of a latch, and/or the status of a software application may determine a security state. Furthermore, a PED may have open, closed, and partially open security states. Information about a current security state of a PED may be transmitted to a point-of-sale device (POS), system processor, and/or financial institution. The PED or any of these other devices may use this information to determine whether to allow or restrict a financial transaction involving the PED. Additionally, a software program on the PED may be allowed or restricted from running depending on the information about the current security state.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump tubing system for use with a positive displacement pump such as a peristaltic pump roller assembly in a surgical procedure. The system comprises a uniquely shaped disposable tubing cassette for retaining the tubing to be used during the surgical procedure and a uniquely shaped cassette receiving station situated adjacent the peristaltic pump roller assembly. The cassette comprises an open backed frame for holding a flexible tube in a loop shape for engagement with the peristaltic rollers. The frame supports a one-sided pressure transducer to indicate the pressure within the flexible tube. The cassette receiving station includes a sensor for engaging the one-sided pressure transducer and is situated adjacent the rollers of the peristaltic pump on the pump housing. A retaining bracket cooperates with the inherent resiliency of the tubing loop to hold the cassette tubing in place against the rollers.
