  • Patent number: 11531202
Abstract: An optical combiner, configured for use in a mixed-reality display system that combines holographic and real-world images, includes an assembly of see-through waveguides that are arranged in a stack to provide full color holographic images from constituent RGB (red, green, and blue) color components received from a holographic image source. Each waveguide—one per RGB color component—includes an in-coupling DOE (diffractive optical element), an intermediate DOE, and an out-coupling DOE that are disposed on internal surfaces of the stacked waveguides in the optical combiner. Each of the out-coupling DOEs incorporates a diffractive lens functionality to render the out-coupled holographic images at a set depth on the mixed-reality display. In an illustrative non-limiting example, the out-coupling DOE may provide a half diopter of negative lens power to set the optical focus of the holographic images at 1.33 m.

  • Patent number: 10326252
Abstract: A light projection system disclosed herein provides fast axis expansion of a light beam for high optical performance despite sizing constraints of a device into which the light projection system is integrated. In one implementation, the light projection system includes a diffuser, an edge-emitting semiconductor laser diode, and a printed circuit board. The diffuser defines a diffuser plane and is oriented to be substantially parallel to least a portion of the printed circuit board. The edge-emitting semiconductor laser diode emits laser light having a fast axis and a slow axis, with the fast axis of the laser light defining a fast axis plane corresponding to a path the laser light travels from the edge-emitting semiconductor laser diode. The edge-emitting semiconductor laser diode is oriented such that the fast axis plane is substantially parallel the diffuser plane between the diffuser and at least the parallel portion of the printed circuit board.

  • Publication number: 20160364011
Abstract: A handheld controller for controlling a computer video game that receives streaming video data defining images of regions of a virtual game environment that the computer transmits; projects the images defined by the video data along a projection axis to form the images on a surface that the projection axis intersects so that a user may view and interact with the images; transmits position and/or orientation (P/O) data that defines positions and/or orientations of the projection axis to control for which regions of the virtual environment the computer streams video; and comprises an actuator operable to disengage the P/O data so that video data received from the computer does not change responsive to changes in position and/or orientation of the controller.

  • Patent number: 9514586
Abstract: A system and method for opening locks, primarily door locks like the locks on hotel room doors using a handheld mobile device and a QR code. A mobile user can be provided with a QR code either via email or from a mobile phone application (App.). The QRC will be their room key. The handheld mobile device will display the QRC on its display. A QRC scanner is connected to the door lock through a processor that can decode the QRC. The processor sends a command to the door lock to open when the proper QRC is decoded.

  • Publication number: 20150262148
Abstract: Apparatus for executing a method to determine whether or not a service request is eligible for straight through processing is provided. The apparatus may receive a service request from an online banking portal. The service request may include an adjustment value. The adjustment value may be a numerical difference between a first value of a check deposited in a customer account and a second value of a check entered into the online banking portal. The service request may also include a time of day during which the service request was requested and/or completed. The apparatus may determine if the adjustment value is less than a threshold value. If the adjustment value is less than the threshold value, the apparatus may transmit the service request to a straight through processing platform and to electronically display on the online banking portal a soft post notifying a user of a credit.

  • Patent number: 8982542
Abstract: A hinge mechanism for a mobile electronic device includes a first leaf comprising first and second fixed pivot axes and a second leaf comprising third and fourth fixed pivot axes, the four pivot axes being substantially parallel to one another. A first linkage is pivotally coupled to the first leaf at the first pivot axis and pivotally coupled to the second leaf at the fourth pivot axis. A second linkage is pivotally coupled to the first leaf such at the second pivot axis and pivotally coupled to the second leaf at the third pivot axis. The first and second leaves are pivotable at least about 180° relative to one another. A cam mechanism can be included to bias the pivotal motion of the leaves. An FPC or other electrical connector linking the leaves can pass through a passage in at least one of the linkages.

  • Patent number: 8847888
Abstract: Various embodiments of optical mice are disclosed that facilitate off-surface detection while also providing high-contrast images of a tracking surface. In one embodiment, an optical mouse comprises a light source configured to emit light having a wavelength in or near a blue region of a visible light spectrum toward a tracking surface, an image sensor, and an optical band pass filter configured to pass the light having the wavelength in or near the blue region of the visible light spectrum emitted by the light source while filtering red and infrared wavelengths. Further, the mouse also comprises a controller configured to receive image data from the image sensor and to identify a tracking feature in the image data. The band pass filter prevents ambient light in the filtered wavelengths from reaching the image sensor, and thereby facilitates off-surface detection, while the blue color of the incident light and band pass filter provides a high-contrast image for motion tracking.

  • Patent number: 8253688
Abstract: A system and method is provided for selecting a light source in a pointing device such as a mouse. The selection of the light source may be based on attributes of a received image, which are in turn based on reflected light received at the pointing device from the tracking surface. Because the attributes of the receive image are related to characteristics of the tracking surface over which the pointing device is moved, an illumination source appropriate for a particular surface type can be chosen.
