  • Publication number: 20190079255
Abstract: Optical fibers and optical fiber cables are provided. An optical fiber includes an optical fiber, the optical fiber comprising a core and a cladding, and a metal coating surrounding the cladding, the metal coating extending along the entire axial length of the optical fiber. The optical fiber further includes a powder coated on an outer surface of the metal coating, wherein the powder is one of a mineral, a ceramic, or a carbon.

  • Patent number: 8369672
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a single-polarization fiber that may include a W-type refractive-index profile having a depressed region along an unguided principal axis of the fiber, and a quasi step-index profile along a guided principal axis of the fiber. The quasi step-index profile may have a depressed region with a radial extent at least twice that of the depressed region along the unguided axis.

  • Publication number: 20050135763
Abstract: A mechanically strippable optical fiber includes a layer of low-adhesion material disposed between a glass fiber and a polymeric outer coating of high thermal stability. The layer low-adhesion material renders the coating amenable to mechanical stripping without damaging the glass fiber. Methods for producing mechanically strippable optical fibers with thermally stable outer coatings are also provided.
