  • Publication number: 20010028929
Abstract: This invention provides a film structure and a method of making it, as well as packages formed therefrom, wherein the sealing properties of a single-site catalyst, SSC or metallocene polymer surface sealing layer are substantially increased as compared with a monolayer film of such a polymer. This invention provides in one embodiment a sealant film having at least two layers comprising a surface sealing layer and an adjacent hot tack strength boosting layer, the surface sealing layer being selected from single-site catalyst (SSC) interpolymers of ethylene and one or more C4-C8 &agr;-olefins having a density in the range of about 0.87 to about 0.915 gm/cc and a melt index of from about 0.2 to about 10 dg/minute, and a CDBI of greater than 30%; and the adjacent hot tack strength boosting layer increases the hot tack strength of the sealing layer by an amount of at least 1.

  • Patent number: 4337188
Abstract: A composition capable of being used for the manufacture of polyolefin film having so-called "cling" properties is disclosed. The composition consists essentially of(a) an intimate mixture of 75-98 weight percent of a first component and 2-25 weight percent of a second component, and(b) at least 200 ppm, based on the weight of (a), of an agent selected from the class consisting of(i) an organic compound having at least one polar group and at least one group selected from the class consisting of alkylene and alkylene interrupted by oxygen, said alkylene having at least eight carbon atoms and said compound being a liquid or a waxy solid;(ii) mineral oil;(iii) a liquid polyolefin; and(iv) an organic phosphate ester that is a liquid or waxy solid; and mixtures of such agents.A preferred agent is N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) alkylamine where the alkyl group is C.sub.12 -C.sub.18 alkyl group. The first component is a blend of 10-100 percent of at least one homopolymer of ethylene having a density of 0.915-0.930 g/cm.sup.

  • Patent number: 4315821
Abstract: An improved process is disclosed for the treatment of aqueous waste streams containing nitrogenous matter (nitrate or nitrite ions or matter capable of forming nitrate and nitrite ions) in the presence of sufficient carbonaceous matter to permit substantially complete denitrification of the aqueous effluent. The process comprises introducing an aqueous waste stream having a pH less than 6 into an anaerobic treatment zone containing anaerobic activated sludge at a rate such that the concentrations of nitrate and nitrite ions in the anaerobic treatment zone are maintained at a level less than 3 milligrams/liter. In embodiments, the effluent from the anaerobic treatment zone is passed to an aerobic treatment zone effluent from which is recycled at a rate at least equal to that at which untreated waste is fed to the anaerobic treatment zone. The waste stream feed may contain phenol.
