Patent number: 9138908Abstract: A material trimmer for trimming sheet material having a blade slidingly engageable with the sheet material along a cutline and an indicator indicative of the approximate location of the cutline. The indicator provides for ready and correct orientation of the sheet material within the material trimmer. In one set of embodiments, the blade is attached to a carriage or trolley adapted for sliding translation along a portion of a guide. The guide is operatively connected to a base. The indicator is disposed in relation to a slot provided in the guide overlaying the sheet material orientated on the base. The indicator may comprise a cord operatively connected to the guide. The tension of the indicator is maintained or adjusted through manipulation of one or more tensioners operatively connected to the guide.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2009Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: Fiskars Brands, Inc.Inventors: Sean T. Petersen, David C. Eby, Theodore Jach, Doug Birkholz

Patent number: 8046922Abstract: An improved cutting device including a mechanism for selectively guarding the edge of a cutting blade. According to various embodiments, a sliding mechanism is operatively connected to a blade guard, wherein the translational movement of the sliding mechanism causes a corresponding rotational movement of the blade guard. When the blade guard is in an extended position, the edge of the cutting blade is not exposed, thereby preventing a user from accidentally cut by the blade. Various embodiments also provide for an improved blade replacement system. According to various embodiments, a locking member is capable of lifting the cutting blade without the user having to touch the blade itself.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Fiskars Brands, Inc.Inventors: David C. Eby, Christine Dusk, Luc Lam, Jon Alling

Publication number: 20090313833Abstract: A material trimmer for trimming sheet material having a blade slidingly engageable with the sheet material along a cut line and a cut line projector operable to create a cut line indicator indicative of the approximate location of the cut line. The projector provides for a ready and correct orientation of the sheet material within the material trimmer. The projector includes a light bar mounted to the base of the material trimmer. When activated, the light bar creates an illuminated cut line indicator that is projected onto the material being cut. The illuminated cut line indicator illustrates location where the material trimmer will trim the material placed on the base of the material trimmer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2009Publication date: December 24, 2009Applicant: FISKARS BRANDS, INC.Inventors: David C. Eby, Bruce C. Kress, Doug Birkholz, Robert Schofield, Jim Boda

Patent number: 7328799Abstract: A method and apparatus of organizing a desk top is disclosed. A first tray includes a base with two walls extending upward. A tab extends out from the first wall, and is capable of having indicia disposed thereon. A support wall extends down from the base such that the base is disposed at an angle with respect to the desktop it is placed on, creating a high region and a low region. The upstanding walls extend from the low region. A file may be placed in the low region, then a second tray of similar shape may be placed on top of the first tray, the base of the second tray bearing down on the file retained in the first tray. A stack of files may be sorted and held accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2003Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Rubbermaid IncorporatedInventors: David C. Eby, Gilius A. Gaska, Aaron W. Publication number: 20080010839Abstract: A rotary cutter, comprising a body, a trigger and an actuator member. The body includes a rear end and a forward end, the forward end including a cylindrical head. The trigger is rotatably connected at one end thereof to the rear end of the body, and the actuator member is also rotatably connected to the body. The actuator member is in at least selective contact with the trigger such that rotation of the trigger results in a reciprocal rotation of the actuator member. A blade assembly is removably coupled to the actuator member and is configured to move between a retracted position and an extended position. Actuation of the trigger results in the blade assembly moving towards the extended position. When the blade assembly is in the extended position, the blade assembly is capable of contacting a cutting surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2006Publication date: January 17, 2008Inventors: David C.
