  • Patent number: 5264666
Abstract: A cargo hook having fore and aft trunnions mounted in fore and aft bearings supported on frame members of a helicopter or the like, is provided with strain gauges secured in a bore in the aft trunnion for measuring shear strain on the trunnion by a load supported by the cargo hook. Additional strain gauges are secured in the aft trunnion bore for measuring axial and Poisson forces on the trunnion as the axis through the fore and aft trunnions varies from horizontal. The strain gauges are included in an electric circuit of a Wheatstone bridge and an indicator which converts the electric signals from the strain gauges to a readout of units of load weight. The strain gauges which measure axial and Poisson forces are connected in the electric circuit to compensate for the deviation from horizontal of the axis through the fore and aft trunnions, to provide an accurate readout of load weight applied to the cargo hook.

  • Patent number: 4300645
Abstract: An elongated bending beam and an elongated flexure strap are supported in substantially parallel, spaced-apart relationship by end cantilever blocks one of which is secured to a scale base and the other of which mounts a food receiving platform for movement vertically with respect to the scale base. First and second pairs of matched strain sensing resistors are bonded to the opposite faces of the bending beam adjacent the opposite ends thereof and are connected electrically to form a balanced Wheatstone bridge, the output voltage of which is utilized to operate a digital read-out unit for indicating the weight of a small portion of sliced food deposited upon the scale platform from a food slicer, and is also utilized to turn off the food slicer when the desired weight of food is deposited on the scale platform.

  • Patent number: 4102031
Abstract: A load measuring system for a tandem-wheeled vehicle. The tandem axles of the vehicle engage opposite ends of two transversely spaced equalizing beams having their midpoints pivotally supporting the vehicle. Deflections of the equalizing beams and front axle, responsive to loading of the vehicle, are sensed by a load cell transducer mounted on each equalizing beam and on the front axle. An amplifying circuit receives the transducer outputs and drives a load indicator. The load indicator provides a visual indication of front and rear wheel axle loading with respect to a preset maximum load point.

  • Patent number: 4020911
Abstract: Several load cell fixed beams transmit the weight of the useful load of a truck or a scale device from the useful load support to the base structure, such as a truck chassis, or a trailer chassis. The load cell fixed beam carries two compression sensitive strain gauges and two tension sensitive strain gauges connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit to actuate a digital display. An amplifier or a variable gain amplifier can be provided to intensify the bridge circuit signal. Calibration controls can be provided for setting the readout of the useful load to zero, and further controls can alter the sensitivity of the circuitry to alter the ratio between useful weight and readout.

  • Patent number: 3949822
Abstract: A weight sensing pad includes two spaced apart load cells, each including a fixed end bending beam deflectable by vertical loads applied to the pad by the wheel of a vehicle and electrical strain gages for sensing beam deflection. The pad includes electronic control circuitry connecting the strain gages in a wheatstone bridge circuit, and providing calibration, zero, output, and bridge sensitivity adjustments. Two or more pads can be serially interconnected electrically with a remote electronic weight indicator.
