    Abstract: An apparatus uses electrical conductance to determine the start and stop times for viscosity measurements using efflux cups. An efflux cup and two probes are immersed and removed from the fluid. An electric current is applied between each probe and the efflux cup. A timer measures the elapsed time between a decrease in the electric current measured between a first probe and the efflux cup and a decrease in the electric current measured between a second probe and the efflux cup.
