    Abstract: A system and method for chemical process design and process scale-up. In all embodiments, the system includes a mechanism for development of process topology for at least one chemical reaction, with the at least one chemical reaction comprising a recipe. In one embodiment, the system further includes a language handler for entry of the recipe. The language handler accepts textual information in free form for representation of the recipe. Such free form textual entry reflects the actual, or natural, language, used by chemists to describe laboratory processes, and is therefore very efficient and easy to use. In another embodiment, the at least one chemical reaction comprises a recipe for synthesizing at least one chemical product. The system also includes a mechanism whereby the development of the process topology includes the identification of one or more types of equipment necessary to manufacture the at least one chemical product using the recipe.

    Abstract: A rewinder includes a lockout cam for controlling the actuation of transfer pins and transfer pads on the bedroll of a rewinder. The transfer pins and transfer pads are mounted on a rotatable pin shaft and a rotatable pad shaft, respectively. A cam follower assembly on the pin shaft is engageable with a pin cam for controlling movement of the transfer pins. A cam follower assembly on the pad shaft is engageable with a pad cam for controlling movement of the transfer pads. The lockout cam is rotatably mounted relative to the bedroll. A first portion of the lockout cam is engageable with the cam follower assemblies for preventing the pin and pad cam follower assemblies from engaging the pin cam and the pad cam, respectively. A second portion of the lockout cam permits the pin and pad cam follower assemblies to engage the pin cam and the pad cam, respectively.

    Abstract: A tack for holding soft thin membrane-like materials such as roof shingles, roofing felt, or house wrap is produced in collated strips from a stock of band sheet metal. Each tack has a head and a shank lanced out of the head and bent out to leave behind a slot in the head. The shank of a given tack nests within the slot of an adjacent tack in a side by side relationship for collating in strips for use in a tacker tool. The production of the collated strips of tacks includes a progressive punch press operation wherein the stock of band sheet metal is indexed incrementally therethrough in a given indexing direction. At the extreme end of the progressive punch press operation, a completed tack is advanced to and through a collating operation in a given collating direction. In one example, the indexing direction and collating direction are arranged 135.degree. apart.

C. to about 150.degree. C. to form a solid product, and contacting the solid product with an activating agent to form a catalyst. Other aspects of the invention provide a catalyst prepared by the above described method and a polymerization process employing the thus prepared catalyst.

A mechanism for actuating pivotal movement of the lid with respect to the container is provided. The lid flange has an elongated slot formed through its thickness. The slot includes a channel and two enlargements situated at opposite ends of the channel. The rod linkage slides through the channel into one of the two enlargements, and engages the lid flange at either enlargement to pivot the lid between positions covering and uncovering the container.

    Abstract: A rigid waste container having a bottom and walls and a peripherally depending rigid shift for offsetting the bottom of the container from a support surface. The skirt has one or more spaced orifices and affixed to the underside of the bottom of the container is a ratchet bar. A holder for a package of waste container liners is mounted on the side of the container. The holder includes a pawl arm, an upright member joined to the pawl arm and a pawl escapement tooth formed on the pawl arm. The holder is located through the orifice of the skirt so as to be in slideable engagement with the ratchet bar. This arrangement is adapted to receive a supply package of liner bags located between the upright member and the wall of the container. The supply package is of sufficient resiliency so as to permit locking engagement of the package between the upright member and the container. The holder is formed of one piece construction and is flat prior to assembly.

    Abstract: The method for detecting leaks in an above ground storage tank includes the step of first determining the level of water in the tank by establishing, in a container lowered into and resting on the bottom of the tank, a clean interface between water and a liquid hydrocarbon product in the tank which has entered into the container. Preferably the method includes an initial step of inserting a predetermined amount of water into the container before lowering the container into the tank. The method also includes sensing changes in conductivity along a line intersecting an interface between the liquid hydrocarbon product in the tank and water in the tank with a leak detector in a casing and establishing a clean interface in the leak detector to prevent debris at the interface in the tank from fouling the sensing of changes of conductivity.

Also, a leak detector including a sensor assembly comprising an array of conductivity sensors for sensing conductivity mounted in a casing is positioned at the bottom of an above ground storage tank. Apparatus is provided for establishing a clean interface between the liquid product and water within the casing. The casing in the interface detecting device or the leak detector casing is completely enclosed except for an opening in the top of the casing for the entry or escape of liquid product into or out of the casing. The apparatus for establishing a clean interface includes a normally closed water inlet/outlet system at the bottom of the casing and a mechanism for opening and closing the water inlet/outlet system.
