    Abstract: Back exercise apparatus has a seat and a footrest, with a first backrest pivotable about a horizontal first axis for biasing the upper portion of a person on the seat about the first axis, and a second backrest pivotable about a vertical second axis for biasing the upper portion of the person about the second axis. A gearbox selectively connects a drive to either backrest and has an input shaft connected to the drive, a pair of output shafts parallel to the input shaft and a selector for connecting the input shaft to a selected one of the output shafts for rotating the selected output shaft in either direction of rotation.
