Abstract: A method for secure printing, comprising: job-issuing user entering to job-issuing package user identification and access rights for job-receiving users, and destination print server; creating privilege table comprising allowable action profiles, and sending the print job with attached privilege table to print server; job-receiving user entering into MFP user identification and print server; MFP retrieving print job with the attached privilege table; and upon verifying legality of the action, releasing the print job. Job-receiving users in possibly different domains have access rights of print only, print and delete if last, and print and send acknowledgement back. Privilege table may contain user-specified threshold retention-period value which along with threshold capacity value is used to delete oldest jobs in print server.

Abstract: A method for providing a menu for a device, by providing a GUI for an administrator to select and lock-down device driver setting profiles, and providing a GUI for displaying to a user the locked-down profiles and permitting the user to select only from the listed profiles. Allowing a user to choose only from the pre-defined profiles makes for convenience and avoids waste from setting errors by novice users. The computer system detects the current system and job information (time, date, printer status, application, user information, etc.) using WMI and SNMP, applies mapping rules defined by an administrator, and displays only those profiles that are applicable to the current system and job status. Methods also include defining new profiles; alerting the user when no profiles are available, with mapping explanation and suggestion; profile detail display; and printer support.

Abstract: A method for seamlessly installing, upgrading, and deleting printer and other device drivers over a network. Instead of a computer periodically searching or scanning the network, searching occurs when a user logs into a computer. If a new device is found, driver installation is carried out using seamless pop-up GUI integrated into the OS, rather than by a Wizard. Methods include providing Domain Controller and User Computer connected to the network; searching the network for newly added devices when detecting a user login; and installing device drivers for the found newly added devices. Methods also include optionally-silent, seamless, pop-up GUI; use of scripts and WSH (Windows Scripting Host); deletion grace periods; TCP/IP and/or SNMP; automatically upgrading existing drivers if necessary; maintaining tables of currently installed, to-be-installed, and to-be-deleted devices; applying pre-defined device settings; and obtaining information of a device and applying the information to the driver.

Abstract: A closed caption tagging system provides a mechanism for inserting tags into an audio or video television broadcast stream prior to or at the time of transmission. The receiver receives the broadcast stream and detects and processes the tags within the broadcast stream which is stored on a storage device that resides on the receiver. The tags contain command and control information that the receiver translates and acts upon. A one-touch recording option is provided. An icon is displayed to the viewer telling the viewer that an advertised program is available for recording at a future time. The viewer presses a single button on an input device causing the receiver to schedule the program for recording.

The tags contain command and control information that the receiver translates and acts upon. The receiver receives the broadcast stream and detects and processes the tags within the broadcast stream which is stored on a storage device that resides on the receiver. Program material from the broadcast stream is played back to the viewer from the storage device. Tags indicate the start and end points of a program segment. Program segments such as commercials are automatically replaced by the receiver with new program segments that are selected based on various criteria.

Abstract: A method for dynamically managing a digital recording system's bandwidth requirements, provides prioritized accesses to the recording system's hard drive according to a pre-defined policy which gives the first priority to the data streams being written to the disk, the second priority to the data streams being read from the disk, and the third priority to other accesses to the disk. The recording system's bandwidth efficiency may also be improved by optimizing allocation of the disk's storage space which is partitioned into lower bandwidth portions and higher bandwidth portions, where lower bandwidth data streams are stored in lower bandwidth portions and higher bandwidth data streams are stored in higher bandwidth portions.

Abstract: A system and method for instantly printing PC postage before establishing a postage meter account. The method includes the steps of a meter vendor obtaining a first meter license from the Post for a first meter; loaning the use of a first meter licensed in the customer's zip code to a customer; requesting a second meter license for the customer; initializing the first meter for use by the customer; and transferring the first meter to the Customer's meter license when the second meter license is received. Alternatively, when the second meter license is received a second meter is assigned to the customer and the first meter is reassigned to the meter vendor.

Abstract: An in-motion starting gate, particularly for horse racing tracks, is disclosed in which the horses are in uniform motion in the stalls at the starting gate at the time they are released. A lightweight starting gate, manufactured from tubular steel and/or aluminum, is supported above the ground by hydraulically powered wheels at each of the four corners, the wheels adapted to be turned in any direction. Each of the wheels is hydraulically driven through power means mounted on the gate structure. An operator station is also provided on the gate structure. Opening and closing of the gates is also hydraulically controlled.
