Patent number: 12192083Abstract: Novel solutions for monitoring and analyzing networks in terms of the volatility of various devices. Some solutions consider a weighted set of metrics in determining such volatility. Evaluation of devices against peers in view of these factors can produce insight about network conditions.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2023Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: CA, Inc.Inventors: David Cosgrove, John Murdough, Jason Normandin, Tim Diep

Publication number: 20200057933Abstract: A network metrics repository stores performance metrics measured during operation of a communication network, and stores fault values indicating types of network operation faults. A neural network circuit has an input layer having input nodes, a sequence of hidden layers each having a plurality of combining nodes, and an output layer having an output node. A processor generates forecasted performance metrics based on extrapolating from measured performance metrics in the network metrics repository, and provides to the input nodes of the neural network circuit the forecasted performance metrics and the measured performance metrics. The processor adapts weights and/or firing thresholds that are used by the input nodes responsive to output of the output node, and controls operation of the communication network based on output of the output node. The output node provides the output responsive to processing through the input nodes a stream of measured performance metrics and forecasted performance metrics.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2018Publication date: February 20, 2020Applicant: CA, Inc.Inventors: David Cosgrove, Michelle Cross

Patent number: 10545817Abstract: A performance anomaly detector obtains a performance metric value from a performance measurement of operation of a resource, and determines a modified Z-score based on the. Occurrence of an anomaly event for the resource is detected responsive to determining that: 1) the modified Z-score exceeds a Z-score anomaly threshold; and 2) a threshold number of other modified Z-scores, which are determined for the other performance metric values in the sequence and are within a sequence window range of the performance metric value, also exceed the Z-score anomaly threshold. A remedial action for the resource is initiated responsive to detecting the occurrence of the anomaly event for the resource.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2017Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: CA, Inc.Inventor: David Cosgrove

Patent number: 10361943Abstract: A method may provide performance management for a data communication network including a plurality of network elements. The method may include defining a cluster of the network elements for a performance metric, and defining one of the network elements of the cluster as a proxy network element for the cluster. A proxy baseline of the performance metric for the cluster may be calculated based on performance metric data for the proxy network element, and the performance metric for each of the network elements of the cluster may be monitored using the proxy baseline of the performance metric. Related systems and computer program products are also discussed.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2017Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: CA, Inc.Inventor: David Cosgrove
