    Abstract: A stack of face masks is disclosed. The stack is formed from a plurality of shaped face masks having an inside surface and an outside surface. The inside surface includes a periphery with an adhesive material disposed on at least a portion thereof. The masks are positioned in a nestled relation to one another, the inside surface of the mask being apposed to the outside surface of an adjacent mask, thereby forming a stack. The masks are adapted to maintain a distance between apposed masks so that the periphery of a mask does not contact the outside surface of an apposed mask.

    Abstract: A breathable, substantially liquid impermeable microporous film and laminate are provided for use in a wide variety of personal care garments and protective garments. The film, or laminate containing the film, is extendible in a cross-direction to a stretched width which is at least 25% greater than an original, unstretched width. The film and laminate have a first water vapor transmission rate of at least about 500 grams/m2-24 hours and a first average pore aspect ratio of at least about 4.0 coinciding with the unstretched width. The film and laminate have a second average pore aspect ratio of about 3.5 or less, and a higher second water vapor transmission rate, When stretched in the cross-direction by at least about 25%. The pore aspect ratio upon cross-direction stretching provides less backsheet dampness despite the increase in film breathability.

    Abstract: Absorbent articles having reduced outer cover dampness are provided and include a hydrophobic barrier layer positioned between an absorbent core and a breathable liquid impervious outer cover. The hydrophobic barrier layer, such as one or more layers of nonwoven webs, has a thickness of at least 0.03 cm and a hydrohead value of at least 18 millibars. The hydrophobic barrier layer does not significantly reduce the water-vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the absorbent article when the absorbent core is dry yet significantly reduces the overall WVTR of the absorbent article once the absorbent core is wet. Thus, an absorbent article is provided having a WVTR that exceeds about 1500 grams/square meter 24 hours when dry and yet is less than 15,000 grams/square meter 24 hours when wet.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a film which includes a microbial adsorbent and which is capable of providing a microbial barrier while still being able to allow passage of water vapor. The film has first and second surfaces and defines least one microporous passageway allowing communication, through the film, between the first and second surfaces. In particular, a portion of the microporous passageway is defined by the microbial adsorbent so that microbes attempting to pass through the film via a passageway must pass in close proximity to the microbial adsorbent. This arrangement allows the microbial adsorbent to interdict the microbe by adsorbing it and prohibiting its passage through the film.

The layered basesheet includes at least two layers which include different fibers and have different physical properties. One of the layers may include polyethylene fibers to provide a soft, gentle feel for contacting the skin of the user during use while the other layer may include polypropylene fibers to provide strength and resiliency to the wipe to withstand the forces exerted by the user, and maintain its shape and integrity in use.

When there is an excess of vapor, the filler particles swell to block or partially block transmission of vapor through the voids and the film layer.

    Abstract: A method of producing a fabric comprising producing fine denier fibers, using either meltblown or spunbond processes, or a combination of the two, followed by crimping, spotbonding using differential bond roll temperatures, and neck-stretching. Fiber having less than or equal to about 1.5 denier is preferred. The bond temperature differential is about 10.degree.-50.degree. F. The mat produced has the unexpected result of improved strength, conformability and reduced stiffness.

    Abstract: There is provided a laminate of nonwoven fabrics for barrier applications which has improved ratios of barrier and strength to weight, of softness to strength and of vapor transmission to barrier. The laminate has a meltblown layer sandwiched between spunbond layers to produce an SMS laminate. The meltblown and spunbond layers may have between 0.1 to 2.0 weight percent of a fluorocarbon and the meltblown layer preferably between 5 and 20 weight percent polybutylene. The laminate also may have pigments if desired. Such laminates are useful for garments.

    Abstract: There is provided a laminate material having stretchability and recovery, breathability and barrier properties, and being made from a nonwoven elastomeric web having at least one web of textile material discontinuously adhesively bonded to each side thereof. The laminate material is free of an elastomeric film, the elastomeric web is substantially flat when the laminate is unstretched, and the nonwoven elastomeric web provides recovery to the laminate. The nonwoven elastomeric web is preferably a web of meltblown elastomeric fibers and the other webs may be knits, wovens or scrim materials. These laminates are well suited for infection control products, personal care products and garments.
