Patent number: 8900534Abstract: A biological sample-processing apparatus has a sample-processing chamber, which has a door with space for receiving reagent tanks. The reagent supply tanks have conduits in fluid communication with reagent buffer tanks in the sample-processing chamber. The door has a pivot with a hollow interior. At least one conduit connects the reagent supply tanks to the reagent buffer tanks through the hollow interior of the pivot. The present invention provides a modification of the door of a biological sample-processing apparatus so that the door is equipped with reagent supply tanks that contain reagents for processing biological samples and that facilitate the operation of the processing and increase convenience, and further, enable more of the apparatuses to be allocated in the same space.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2012Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Taigen Bioscience CorporationInventor: David Daf

Patent number: 8658105Abstract: An apparatus for securely processing biological sample is used to wash, separate, or purify biological molecules, such as DNAs, RNAs, and proteins. The apparatus comprises at least one semi-permeable membrane column, a vacuum manifold, and at least one optional adaptor column. The semi-permeable membrane column is loosely received in the slot of the vacuum manifold. When the adaptor column is used, the semi-permeable membrane column is loosely received in the adaptor column, and the adaptor column is loosely received in the slot of the vacuum manifold. The apparatus also comprises sealing elements which are inserted between the column and the slot. When the semi-permeable membrane column contains liquid sample and vacuum is applied to the vacuum manifold, the liquid in the semi-permeable membrane column can be drawn out of the column through the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2012Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Taigen Bioscience CorporationInventor: David Daf

Patent number: 8597596Abstract: A plunger for mixing a biological sample with a reagent in a tube is moved up and down reciprocally to agitate the biological sample and the reagent for subsequent extraction of the material from the mixture to be analyzed. The plunger's agitation facilitates the concentration of the extracted material to reach an extent where a correct analysis is possible. The plunger of the present invention has a shape of a hollow cylinder with an aperture at the bottom, a plurality of slots formed on the cylindrical surface, and an opening formed at the top. The plunger allows a pipette to draw the extracted material in the test tube out from the opening at the top of the plunger without removing the plunger, and prevents drawing out the fragments of the sample after the biological sample and the reagent have been sufficiently mixed.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2012Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Assignee: Taigen Bioscience CorporationInventor: David Daf

Publication number: 20090048438Abstract: A method for washing a column is characterised by using a washing liquid, such as an eluting buffer, water, or even any expected buffer, between the traditional washing step and the eluting step as to effectively remove the impurities and/or residual washing liquid in a column from the previous washing step. A method for extracting membrane-bound target molecules containing the additional washing method is also devised.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2007Publication date: February 19, 2009Inventor: David Daf

Publication number: 20080101996Abstract: A multi-channel liquid-handling pipette is provided having a top portion and a bottom portion. The top portion is disposed with a plurality of inlets and the bottom portion is disposed with a plurality of pipetting heads for mounting tips. Each of the inlets is connected to a syringe or an apparatus with the functions of both quantitatively aspirating and dispensing liquid and being in communication with the corresponding pipetting head. Each of the tips corresponds to a respective well of a multi-well plate. The multi-well plate is arranged as a 6×4, 12×8 or 24×16 array having a channel spacing of 18 mm, 9 mm and 4.5 mm between two adjacent wells, respectively, while the pipetting heads are arranged as a 6×4 array having an 18 mm channel spacing between two adjacent pipetting heads.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventor: David Daf

Publication number: 20060177354Abstract: An apparatus for processing biological sample which are commonly used to wash, separate and purify biochemical molecules, such as DNA, RNA and protein. The apparatus comprises at least one liquid semi-permeable membrane column, at least one vacuum connected column and a vacuum manifold, which are all loosely received to each other. An air tight material such as an air tight elastic band is disposed at a position where the liquid semi-permeable membrane column, the one vacuum connected column and the vacuum manifold engage with each other, thereby when the atmospheric pressure in the liquid semi-permeable membrane column is larger than that in the vacuum manifold, the apparatus is formed and maintained in an air tight state. If a liquid sample is placed inside liquid semi-permeable membrane column, the atmospheric pressure can push the liquid out of the column through the liquid semi-permeable membranes.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2005Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventor: David Daf
