Abstract: A vision system for inspecting an object includes a vision tunnel having a housing with a plurality of panels to define a cavity therebetween. A lighting zone is disposed adjacent the housing, the lighting zone including a light source and a light shield which cooperate to illuminate the object disposed in the lighting zone, while blocking at least a portion of an ambient light. A sensor is disposed in the cavity of the housing to scan the object disposed in the lighting zone.

Abstract: A means for extending the Input/Output System of a host computer via software-centric virtualization. Physical hardware I/O resources are virtualized via a software-centric solution utilizing two or more host systems. The invention advantageously eliminates the host bus adapter, remote bus adapter, and expansion chassis and replaces them with a software construct that virtualizes selectable hardware resources located on a geographically remote second host making them available to the first host. One aspect of the invention utilizes 1 Gbps-10 Gbps or greater connectivity via the host systems existing standard Network Interface Cards (NIC) along with unique software to form the virtualization solution.

Abstract: A virtualization of the internal interconnection bus, which results in a virtualized switch or virtualized multi-ported bridge. In the case of a PCI Express switch, one embodiment includes virtualization of the undefined interconnection bus. In the case of a Multi-ported bridge, one embodiment includes virtualization of the internal PCI/PCI-X bus. Through virtualization of the internal interconnection bus, the integrated circuit topology (the physical bridges and ports) may advantageously be spatially separated and remotely distributed far a field from the host computer, yet appear to the host system and host system software as single physical device (i.e. a normal PCIe switch or a normal multi-ported bridge).

Abstract: A solution enabling the practical use of very large amounts of memory, external to a host computer system. With physical locality and confinement removed as an impediment, large quantities of memory, here before impractical to physically implement, now become practical. Memory chips and circuit cards no longer must be installed directly in a host system. Instead, the memory resources may be distributed or located centrally on a network, asconvenient, in much the same manner that mass storage is presently implemented.

Abstract: Key assemblies to mechanically key pluggable-module sockets are described. A disclosed example key assembly includes a key having a shaft, a first radial protrusion extending from the shaft and an annular guide surface on the shaft; and a key base having a plurality of fingers defining a plurality of radial slots and an opening to receive at least a portion of the shaft, wherein at least one of the fingers is to engage the annular guide surface to enable the key to rotate to a set position, and wherein the first radial protrusion is to engage one of the slots to rotationally hold the key in a set position when the at least one of the fingers forced out of engagement with the annular guide surface.

Abstract: A system for detecting and controlling collusion in a game with a plurality of participating players includes a gaming server and a number of portals in the form of websites on the World Wide Web in the Internet. Each of the portal websites is an online casino website hosted on a corresponding casino web server (not shown). Each of the casino websites is accessible by one or more would-be poker players. Each player accesses the website using a computer with a display and an associated pointing device. The system further includes an administration facility, which communicates with the gaming server along a communication channel, and a collusion detection server in communication with the gaming server via the communication channel.

Abstract: A rail joint assembly joining the ends of two rails together includes a pair of joint bars. Each joint bar having one side configured to the rail web side. Mechanical fasteners mount the joint bars to the web sides. Pairs of load bearing keys are embedded in web counter bores at predetermined depths into the webs and embedded in adjacent joint bar counter bores at predetermined depths into the joint bars. The pairs of keys in the webs and the joint bars transfer railway loads through the joint and substantially strengthen the rail joint assembly.

Abstract: An applicator instrument for dispensing surgical fasteners includes a housing, an elongated shaft extending from the housing, the elongated shaft having a proximal end coupled with the housing and a distal end remote therefrom, and a firing system for dispensing surgical fasteners from the distal end of the elongated shaft. The firing system includes a firing rod disposed in the elongated shaft, the firing system having a firing cycle with a first stage for advancing the firing rod toward the distal end of the elongated shaft at a first rate of speed and a second stage for advancing the firing rod toward the distal end of the elongated shaft at a second rate of speed that is greater than the first rate of speed.

Abstract: A surgical fastener for securing a prosthetic device to tissue includes a first leg having a distal end, a proximal end, and a first insertion tip at the distal end of the first leg, and a second leg including a distal end, a proximal end, and a second insertion tip at the distal end of the second leg. A bridge connects the proximal ends of the first and second legs for forming a closed end of the surgical fastener. The first insertion tip has a first insertion tool seating surface, and the second insertion tip has a second insertion tool seating surface. The first insertion tool seating surface is closer to the distal end of the first leg than the proximal end of the first leg, and the second insertion tool seating surface is closer to the distal end of the second leg than the proximal end of the second leg. The first and second legs extend along respective longitudinal axes, and the first and second insertion tips are skewed outwardly relative to the respective longitudinal axes.

Abstract: An applicator instrument for dispensing surgical fasteners includes a housing, an elongated shaft extending from the housing, a firing rod disposed inside the elongated shaft and being movable within a first plane between a retracted position and an extended position, an advancer disposed inside the elongated shaft and being moveable within a second plane between a retracted position and an extended position, and a staging assembly located adjacent the distal end of the elongated shaft and being adapted to align surgical fasteners with a distal end of the firing rod. The staging assembly is held below the second plane by the advancer when the advancer is in the extended position and the staging assembly is adapted to move into at least partial alignment with the distal end of the firing rod when the advancer is in the retracted position.

Abstract: A firing system for an applicator instrument adapted to dispense surgical fasteners includes a housing, an elongated shaft extending from the housing, a firing rod disposed within the elongated shaft, a firing rod release engageable with the firing rod for preventing distal movement of the firing rod during at least one stage of a firing cycle, a trigger mounted to the housing, and a firing spring having a first end connected with the firing rod and a second end adapted for being sequentially coupled and decoupled from the trigger during the firing cycle. The firing cycle includes an initial stage in which the trigger is open and decoupled from the energy storing element, and the firing spring is at least partially compressed, and a piloting stage during which the firing rod release is disengaged from the firing rod for enabling distal movement of the firing rod.

Abstract: A hardware/software system and method that collectively enables virtualization of the host computer's native I/O system architecture via the Internet and LANs. The invention includes a solution to the problems of the relatively narrow focus of iSCSI, the direct connect limitation of PCI Express, and the inaccessibility of PCI Express for expansion in blade architectures.

Abstract: A method of determining risk of cancer in a mammal is provided. The method includes analyzing the genomic DNA of the mammal and determining genomic CNV frequency or genomic structural variation. An increase in either CNV frequency or genomic structural variation in comparison to a baseline mean value is indicative of cancer.

Abstract: A locknut system having a projecting screw threaded member with a first external thread. A nut is mountable on the projecting screw threaded member by means of a corresponding thread. A second different screw thread is formed on the projecting screw threaded member. The second screw thread is of a different hand or a different pitch from the first screw thread. A locking member has a screw thread for engagement with the second screw thread of the projecting screw threaded member and has an engaging surface which can be brought into abutting contact with a corresponding engaging surface on the nut by mating the thread of the locking member with the second thread of the projecting screw threaded member. A coupling member operates to couple the locking member and the nut to substantially prevent relative rotation there between.

Abstract: Among other things, there is disclosed an orthopedic plate system for use in supporting or stabilizing long bones in pediatric patients. The plate includes a substantially planar portion for placement along a diaphysis of a long bone and a portion curved out of the plane of the planar portion for placement along at least part of a metaphysis of the long bone. Holes through the plate are provided for screws in both the curved and planar portions, which hold the plate to the long bone. The holes are substantially parallel to each other and substantially perpendicular to the plane of the planar portion. Screws through the holes and into the bone are substantially parallel to an epiphyseal plate of the long bone, so that attachment of the plate to the bone does not adversely affect growth of the long bone.

Abstract: A self-contained audio/visual presentation system for ease of use. In networks and methods for providing audio/visual presentation systems to facilitators, such as meeting facilities, and by the facilitators to customers of the facilitator, an owner supplies one or more audio/visual presentation systems to a facilitator without relinquishing at least some of its rights to the audio/visual presentation system. The facilitator rents the audio/visual presentation system to its customers. The facilitator compensates the owner for each use of the audio/visual presentation system. A user may obtain an access validation, use the access validation to actuate (e.g., turn on) an audio/visual presentation system, and operate the audio/visual presentation system.
