Publication number: 20250089850Abstract: According to an embodiment, a component for attachment to an article includes an upper component that is made of a thermoplastic material having a first melting temperature and a flange member that is molded onto the upper component and made of a thermoplastic elastomer material having a second melting temperature that is lower than the first melting temperature of the upper component. The flange member extends laterally from a bottom end of the upper component so that a bottom surface of the flange member is flush with or positioned axially below a bottom surface of the upper component. The melting temperature of the thermoplastic elastomer material enables the flange member to be directly coupled to the article via heat welding and the like without substantially affecting the upper component.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2024Publication date: March 20, 2025Applicant: Boa Technology Inc.Inventors: Kristopher Lovett, Andrea Cavanagh, Robert Burns, Mark Soderberg, Mark Kerns, Michael Nickel, James Capra, Ilya Minkin, Brett Vladika, Sean Cavanagh, David Dickensheets

Patent number: 8300220Abstract: A probe using integrated confocal reflectance imaging, confocal Raman spectroscopy, and gross spatial imaging for non-invasiveIy evaluating a target of interest of a living subject. In one embodiment, the probe includes a casing with first and second ends, and first, second and third optical pons The firsi and second optical ports are located at the first end of the casing and the third optical port is located at the second end of the casing such that the first and third optical ports define a first optical path therebetween and the second and third optical ports define a second optical path therebetween, respectively. Each optical path has first and second portions, where the second portions of the first and second optical paths arc substantially overlapped and proximal to the third optical port.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2010Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignees: Vanderbilt University, Montana State UniversityInventors: Anita M. Publication number: 20090065429Abstract: Stiffened surface micromachined structures and a method to fabricate the same. A silicon substrate (10) is first etched to produce a mold containing a plurality of trenches or grooves (14) in a lattice configuration. Sacrificial oxide (15) is then grown on the silicon substrate (10) and then a stiffening member (16) (silicon nitride) is deposited over the surface of the substrate, thereby backfilling the grooves with silicon nitride. The silicon nitride is patterned to form mechanical members and metal (40) is then deposited and patterned to form the leads and capacitors for electrostatic actuation of mechanical members. The underlying silicon and sacrificial oxides are removed by etching the mold from underneath the fabricated micromachined devices, leaving free-standing silicon nitride devices with vertical ribs. The devices exhibit increased out-of-plan bending stiffness because of the presence of stiffening ribs. Silicon nitride biaxial pointing mirrors with stiffening ribs are also described.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2002Publication date: March 12, 2009Inventors: David Dickensheets, Todd Kaiser, Phillip Himmer, Jeffrey Lutzenberger, Robert Friholm

Publication number: 20070035855Abstract: A confocal optical device is described. The device includes a tri-axial scanning mirror that can provide for three-dimensional scanning of objects. In particular, the scanning mirror has a deformable reflective membrane mounted on two annular gimbaled members to provide for rotation about two orthogonal axes. The deformable membrane, which can be provided at other suitable locations in the device, is used to control the focusing spot of the light beam transmitted from the device to the object being scanned. Various methods relating to the confocal optical device are also described.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2004Publication date: February 15, 2007Inventor: David Dickensheets

Publication number: 20060284790Abstract: A scanning system device has a predetermined aberration as it scans or switches light along selected optical paths. A deformable membrane receives the light and introduces an inverse “aberration” that offsets that of the scanning system. In one embodiment the scanning system includes a torsion arm that supports an oscillatory body. The torsion arm and/or body can be machined from metal, micromachined in silicon or formed in a variety of other ways. Alternatively, the scanning system may include a rotating polygonal scanner or other type of optical scanner. In another approach, an optical switch replaces the scanner.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2006Publication date: December 21, 2006Inventors: Clarence Tegreene, David Dickensheets

Publication number: 20060232846Abstract: An optical element with multi-layer composites that deforms to reduce optical aberrations in off-axis optic. Methods are also described in relation to the optical element.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2004Publication date: October 19, 2006Inventors: Phillip Himmer, David Dickensheets
