Patent number: 10138901Abstract: A fan array is provided having a frame including a plurality of frame members. The frame members are joined to define a plurality of chambers. Each of a plurality of fan units is configured to be positioned in one of the plurality of chambers. Each fan unit has a motor. A plurality of local motor controllers are joined to corresponding motors. The local motor controllers are configured to control an operation of the corresponding fan unit. A master controller is configured to communicate with the local motor controllers. The master controller is configured to provide the local motor controllers with target operating parameters for the corresponding fan units.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2011Date of Patent: November 27, 2018Assignee: Nortek Air Solutions, LLCInventors: David E. Benson, Brian James Motland, Matthew Alan Gassaway, Robert Techam

Patent number: 8355949Abstract: The invention in some embodiments features a contextual content delivery system (CCDS) for enhancing conventional web content with pop-up bubbles that display information when a cursor hovers over a word, link, or icon. The CCDS is configured to identify words or links in a document, determine their context, select the appropriate bubble from a plural of bubble types for each of the words or links, select content for each bubble based, in part, on the context in which the words and hyperlinks are used. The context can be determined from various sources including the resource in which the word or link appears and the target resource to which the link points. Thereafter, the CCDS enhances the words or links so that bubbles are automatically invoked in response to the appropriate trigger.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2012Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: Ubermedia, Inc.Inventors: Michael N. Agostino, Jason P. Fields, Joseph Chen, Yovav Meydad, Jason Levine, Michael Radford, David E. Benson, Christopher Starace, Eric J. Kim

Patent number: 8087492Abstract: A filter bank is provided. The filter bank includes a housing having a front face and a back face. Air flows along an air flow path from the front face to the back face. A filter layer is held in the housing. The filter layer is oriented between the front and back faces such that air flows through the filter layer before discharging from the back face. An attenuation layer is positioned within the housing to attenuate sound as the sound propagates between the front and back faces. The attenuation layer is oriented to extend along the air flow direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2010Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Huntair, Inc.Inventors: Zareer Cursetjee, David L. Baugh, David E. Benson

Patent number: 6977180Abstract: The present invention relates, in general, to biosensors and, in particular, to bioelectronic sensors comprising a macromolecule immobilized on an electrode surface so that a redox cofactor that is site-specifically attached to the surface of the macromolecule is between the macromolecule and electrode surface ligand-mediated conformational changes alter the geometry of interaction between the redox cofactor and the electrode surface resulting in a change in electronic coupling between the cofactor and electrode.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2002Date of Patent: December 20, 2005Assignee: Duke UniversityInventors: Homme W. Patent number: 5613759Abstract: A ceiling structure for retaining air filter panels having a grid of interconnected rails. Each rail has a recessed channel for containing a light fixture so that the light fixture does not hang below the ceiling surface. The structure may also include hanger hooks attachable to the rails for suspending fixtures, wall panels, and pivoting wall headers to permit angled arrangements of wall panels. The light fixture attached within the channel is an extruded panel that snaps into the channel and which includes standard light tube connectors.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Brod & McClung-Pace Co.Inventors: Craig S. Ludwig, Richard E. Spradling, David E. Benson

Patent number: 5014608Abstract: A clean room is supplied with air at a controllable velocity from a blower with a variable damper mechanism. The ceiling of the clean room is comprised of a plurality of panels of particulate filter material. Associated with at least some of said panels are air dampers comprised of first and second adjacent perforated plates. The first plate is fixed and the second plate is mounted for translational movement relative to the first. By moving the second plate relative to the first, the perforations therein are selectably opened or occluded, permitting the air passing through each panel to be regulated. Air flow through the room as a whole is controlled by the variable air flow feature of the blower.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1990Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Assignee: Brod & McClung - Pace Co.Inventors: David E. Benson, Michael T. Post
