  • Patent number: 5031695
Abstract: A well casing hanger with a wide temperature range seal element that is energized by axial compression with a pre-determined initial portion of the casing hang load, the remaining portion of that hang load then being transferred to the wellhead or other surrounding well element without imposition on the seal element.

  • Patent number: 4848777
Abstract: A casing seal for use with a source of high pressure fluids with apparatus for preventing shredding of the seal with variations in fluid pressure. A T-shaped annular metal ring provides a multiplication of fluid pressure so pressure exerted on an elastomeric sealing ring is greater than the fluid pressure. This multiplication prevents gases from entering the elastomer and prevents shredding of the elastomer when pressure is released. The multiplication of pressure also forces the elastomer firmly against a casing and a casing head to provide a fluid-tight seal.

  • Patent number: 4397177
Abstract: A hydraulic filter press apparatus includes a filtration cell which includes a container for receiving a sample of the drilling mud, a pressure inlet communicating with the container, a bladder for preventing fluid communication between the drilling mud sample and the pressure inlet and for transmitting hydraulic pressure from the pressure inlet to the drilling mud sample, a filter arranged for contacting the drilling mud sample in the container, and a liquid outlet for draining the liquid pressed from the drilling mud sample through the filter. A pump is provided for supplying hydraulic fluid under pressure to the pressure inlet of the filtration cell, which pump includes a pump body having a cylindrical bore disposed therein and an outlet port for communicating the bore with the pressure inlet of the filtration cell. The pump also includes a rotatable piston member threadedly engaged with the pump body for pressurizing fluid contained in the bore upon rotation of the piston member relative to the pump body.

  • Patent number: 4374474
Abstract: A fluid density measuring apparatus for measuring the density of a fluid in a pressurized state. The apparatus includes a balance arm, a fulcrum for supporting the balance arm, a balance weight slidably disposed on the balance arm, and a pressurizable container disposed on the balance arm for holding a fluid sample. A valve is connected to the pressurizable container for allowing pressurized fluid to flow into the container and for retaining the fluid in the container under pressure. A pump is provided for supplying pressurized fluid to the valve. The pump includes a pump body having a cylindrical bore disposed therein and an outlet port for communicating the bore with the valve. The pump also includes a rotatable piston member, threadedly engaged with the pump body, for pressurizing fluid contained in the bore of the pump body upon rotation of the piston member relative to the pump body. One alternative embodiment is suitable for both pressurized and non-pressurized fluid density measurements.

  • Patent number: 4321829
Abstract: A density measuring apparatus includes a container for holding a fluid to be tested, a balance arm having a first end attached to the container, a fulcrum for supporting the balance arm, and a balance weight slidably disposed on the balance arm. The balance arm has an inverted channel shape cross-section defined by a top portion and first and second side portions depending downwardly from the top portion. First and second tabs extend downwardly from the first and second side portions and have first and second downward opening recesses disposed therein, respectively. A knife edge of the fulcrum engages the recesses of the tabs so that the balance arm is supported thereby. Approximately one-third of the length of the balance arm adjacent the container includes a longitudinally extending rib member located intermediate of the first and second side portions and depending downward from the top portion of the balance arm.

  • Patent number: 4299118
Abstract: An improved rotational viscometer is provided, having a base, a housing, and one and only one adjustable support leg supporting the housing from the base. The support leg provides for adjustment of the length of the leg and provides for alignment of the housing relative to the base. A rotatable tubular sleeve extends downwardly from the housing, and an electric motor is provided in the housing for driving the rotatable sleeve. The electric motor is connected to the rotatable sleeve by a toothed pulley and belt assembly. A cylindrical non-metallic bob is concentrically positioned within the tubular sleeve and is attached to the lower end of a bob shaft. The upper end of the bob shaft has an indicator dial attached thereto and is connected to the housing by a torsional string.
