  • Publication number: 20090193819
Abstract: A pre-chiller for an ice making system. The pre-chiller provides a coiled conductive tube mounted in an ice storage bin. Water flows through the tube and is chilled by the tube that is cold as a result of heat exchange from the ice in the ice storage bin. This chilled water is then delivered to the water inlet of the refrigeration system. The lower temperature of the chilled water compared to the typical ambient temperature of the water delivered to the refrigeration system lowers the power consumption of the refrigeration system and increases its efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7565660
Abstract: A method and system is provided for creating applications for one or more types of programmable logic controllers (PLCs). A open development kit (ODK) is provided that permits dynamic link libraries to be created and interfaced to a user application software and also to the interface layers of the various types of PLCs. The types of PLCs may include soft PLCs, slot PLCs, and hard PLCs and interface via slots of a personal computer platform. The ODK provides generic interfacing to the various types of PLCs and establishes the necessary operating environment structure to implement processing in either a non-real time and a real time mode. A single application package may then control and manage the various types of PLCs. Communication paths are provided from the PLCs to the ODK subsystem to the user application so that the application software is essentially indifferent to type of PLC involved.

  • Patent number: 6892569
Abstract: It is becoming more common for diesel engine cylinders to include an engine compression release brake that can utilize energy built up in the cylinder to provide additional braking for the vehicle. The present invention utilizes a software diagnostic test that is stored in an electronic control module to detect defects in the engine compression release brakes. In particular, the present invention operates a first portion of the engine cylinders in a power mode and a second portion of the engine cylinders in a braking mode and compares a resulting fuel injector response or engine response to an expected value to determine if one or more of the engine compression release brakes are performing as expected.

  • Patent number: 6827050
Abstract: A control system adapted to control an actuator between extended and retracted positions has a fluid control valve connected to the actuator a source of high pressure fluid and a reservoir. The fluid control valve is movable between a first position at which the actuator is connected back to the fluid reservoir adapted and a second position operable to connect the actuator to a high pressure actuation fluid source. An electronic control module is connected in control communication with the fluid control valve and adapted to automatically generate a control signal to position the control valve at the second position in response to an elapsed time being passed at which the fluid control valve is at the first position is greater than a predetermined time.
