Publication number: 20040044452Abstract: To manage a fleet of vehicles efficiently, data is obtained concerning vehicle condition; some of this data is recorded in a data packet format on a vehicle and transmitted by radio from the vehicles to a base station, and under some circumstances, transmitted by the internet to a central data station where it is used to determine what should be done with the vehicles, such as for example to determine if the battery of a vehicle must be charged. The data may be transmitted from one vehicle to another vehicle before reaching the base station or the central data station. The data packets can indicate the vehicle to which the data applies, if the battery needs to be charged or replaced and can establish a priority schedule for the charging or replacement of the battery.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2002Publication date: March 4, 2004Applicant: Lester Electrical of Nebraska, Inc.Inventors: Mark T. Patent number: 5553445Abstract: A gang mower, with a frame supported upon plurality of ground engaging wheels, a prime mover, and a plurality of reel-type lawn mowers. At least one of the reel-type mowers is secured to an arm member which is secured to and pivots about frame so that the reel-type mower may be moved from an operating position beneath the frame to a service position adjacent to the frame. An electric motor provides the driving torque for moving the mower over surfaces to be mowed. Individual electric motors provide driving torque for each of the reel lawn mowers. Further, electrically driven lift mechanisms move the reel-type lawn mowers between a lowered operating position in which the reel lawn mowers engage the turf being mowed and a raised non-operating or transport position. The pivot support includes a king pin secured to the frame. The king pin enables movement of a swing member. An arm secured to the swing member may be releasably secured in an operating position by a latch to the frame.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Ransomes America CorporationInventors: Mark E. Patent number: 5540037Abstract: An electric drive riding greens mower, with a frame supported plurality of ground engaging wheels, supports a battery power source, an operator station and a plurality of reel lawn mowers. An electric motor provides the driving torque for moving the mower over surfaces to be mowed. Individual electric motors provide driving torque for each of the reel lawn mowers. Electrically driven linear actuators move the reel lawn mowers between a lowered operating position in which the reel lawn mowers engage the turf being mowed and a raised non-operating or transport position. An operator oriented controls layout, which includes an operator communication panel, is provided on the mower. All electric operation provides emissionless extremely quiet operation. The mower includes an electric control system having a battery power source providing a plurality of output voltages to drive the various electric components.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1995Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: Ransomes America CorporationInventors: Mark E. Patent number: 5406778Abstract: An electric drive riding greens mower includes a frame member which is supported for movement upon a plurality of ground engaging wheels and upon which are supported a battery power source, an operator station and a plurality of reel lawn mowers. An electric motor provides the driving torque for moving the mower between and over golf course greens or other surfaces to be mowed. Individual electric motors provide driving torque for each of the reel lawn mowers. Electrically driven linear actuators move the reel lawn mowers between a lowered operating position in which the reel lawn mowers engage the turf being mowed and a raised non-operating or transport position. A unique swinging arm on the frame member provides for a pivoting mount for the under-center reel mowers to facilitate service. The frame member is further efficiently constructed to facilitate ergonomic operator utilization of the mower. The frame member supports and protect various electrical and mechanical components.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1994Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Ransomes America CorporationInventors: Mark E. Patent number: 4782333Abstract: A cylindrical shuttle having a cone-shaped cam surface on one end which slides freely on a timer shaft between a first stop and a second stop which are attached to the shaft. A vane arm driven by a water vane engages the side of the first stop opposite the shuttle. In the normal (no-flow) condition, the vane return spring presses the vane arm against the first stop, which in turn forces the shuttle cam surface against the plungers of two microswitches on either side of the timer shaft, causing the plungers to ride up the cam surface to rest on the shuttle. When water flows, the vane arm releases the first stop and the timer shaft begins to move. After the shaft moves the free distance between the second stop and the shuttle, the second stop engages the shuttle and forces it out from under the plungers. When the plungers reach the cam surface, the shuttle cams out from under the plungers allowing them to release freely and rapidly.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1987Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventor: David E. Patent number: 4695686Abstract: A switch is mounted on a plate within a housing having a housing body with a port and a removable housing cover. A switch actuator rod is mounted on a pivot within a sleeve that may be coupled to the housing so that the rod extends through the port and engages the switch within the housing. A linear actuator rod is slideably mounted within a sleeve which also may be coupled to the housing so that the rod extends through the port and engages the switch. A spring is mounted on the housing cover in a direction traverse to the arc through which the swing actuator rod pivots so that it engages the end of rod and biases it away from the switch. By removing the cover, moving the rod to the opposite end of its arc, and replacing the cover, the direction of engagement of the rod with the spring may be changed. The switch plate is movable along the rod's arc of pivot so that the switch trip point along the arc may be adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1986Date of Patent: September 22, 1987Assignee: Emhart Industries Inc.Inventor: David E. Patent number: 4692838Abstract: A fire panel includes a housing with a rectangular opening and rectangular door covering said opening. The door is attached to the panel with a attaching elements which comprises a pair of tracks spanning the opening, each track having a t-shaped channel, and a pair of truss-headed screws attached to the door. The heads of the screws slide in the channels in the tracks permitting the door to be slid from one side of the opening to the other without detaching the door from the housing. The door permits ease of service while meeting Underwriter's Laboratories safety requirements.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1986Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Emhart Industries, Inc.Inventor: David E.
