Abstract: A customizable clip-on accessory for spectacles includes a pair of auxiliary lenses, and clasps for engaging the lenses to join them to a bridge member and to releasably engage the spectacles. The clasps include a pair of parallel posts engagable by a fastener member having a pair of cylindrical lugs with bores extending therethrough to receive the posts in permanent fashion. The lens is drilled with hole to accept the lugs, and the posts are inserted through the bores and trimmed. A tongue extends from each clasp, and may be bent and trimmed to engage the periphery of the spectacles. Alternatively, the tongue may have a tab end that engages a bracket member provided with spaced apart flanges to engage the periphery of the spectacles. The bracket member may also be used with a clamping fastener that has a toothed edge to engage an edge portion of the auxiliary lens.

Abstract: An improved construction for custom clip-on accessories for spectacles includes a pair of accessory lens components that are shaped to conform to the lenses of a pair of spectacles. A pair of clasp components are secured to upper edge portions of respective accessory lenses, and a bridge member joins the two upper clasps to form an assembly thereof. In addition, a pair of lower clasps are secured to lower edge portions of the respective accessory lenses. The upper and lower clasps include bracket portions that engage the frame (or, in frameless spectacles, the edges of the ophthalmic lenses) and removably retain the clip-on assembly to the spectacles. Each clasp includes a channel-like opening for receiving the edge portion of the accessory lens. The channel is formed of a stiff, form-retaining metal that may be crimped to contract onto the edge portion of the accessory lens.

Abstract: A clip-on accessory for positioning auxiliary optical elements in front of the lenses of eyeglass can be easily assembled to custon fit eyeglasses having any of a variety of different sizes and configurations. An outline of the lens regions of the particular pair of eyeglasses is prepared and two initially oversized optical elements are trimmed to conform with the outline. Upper and lower eyeglass engaging claps are secured to each element and ends of a resilient bridge member are inserted into passages in each upper clasp. At least one upper clasp and the optical element to which it is fastened is slid along the bridge member to space the elements apart a distance corresponding to the spacing of the eyeglass lens regions. The upper clasps are then secured to the bridge member and end portions of the bridge member that protrude from the upper claps are cut off.
