  • Patent number: 9990853
Abstract: A material detection system mountable to a ground vehicle. The material detection system includes a first range determination system (RDS) that includes a first electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitter configured to emit first EMR behind the ground vehicle within a first field of view (FOV), a first EMR receiver that is configured to receive first EMR reflections, and a first RDS processing device configured to generate first RDS data that identifies distances to reflective surfaces based on the first EMR reflections. A processing device is coupled to the first range determination system and is configured to determine, based at least in part on the first RDS data, that material exists on the road. The processing device is also configured to determine a location of the material, and cause the location to be communicated to a computing device that maintains a map that identifies locations of material larger than a predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20120186425
Abstract: An armor package in which RPGs, shaped charges, EFPs, other jets, and small arms threats are defeated using a layered solution incorporating particles designed to embed themselves in the incoming threat, thereby disrupting and diminishing the effectiveness of the threat. Additional components of the armor are designed to work in conjunction with this effect to completely defeat the incoming threat. This armor construction can provide alternatively a higher level of protection for either a given weight or space presently required by a conventional armor solution or an equivalent level of protection in reduced space or at reduced weight than is presently achievable with conventional armor solutions.

  • Patent number: 7888278
Abstract: The present invention relates to stabilized supports stable at temperatures above 800° C., and method of preparing such supports, which includes adding a rare earth metal to an aluminum-containing precursor prior to calcining. The present invention can be more specifically seen as a support, process and catalyst wherein the stabilized alumina catalyst support comprises a rare earth aluminate with a molar ratio of aluminum to rare earth metal greater than 5:1 and, optionally, an aluminum oxide. More particularly, the invention relates to the use of catalysts comprising rhodium, ruthenium, iridium, or combinations thereof, loaded onto said stabilized supports for the synthesis gas production via partial oxidation of light hydrocarbons, and further relates to gas-to-liquids conversion processes.

  • Patent number: 7418324
Abstract: A look-ahead detection system (LADS) that actively controls the suspension of at least some of the seats in a watercraft to drastically reduce the shock and/or vibrations experienced by passengers within the seats caused by waves, other water conditions and/or the bending of the craft as it travels through the water. The look-ahead detection system utilizes downward-looking sensors to help the system predict when the craft will strike the water and how strong the impact will be. That is, the look-ahead detection system uses the sensors to look forward in time and down in space.

  • Patent number: 7039512
Abstract: An active suspension system is used to control the motion of a passenger seat in a high speed watercraft. A forward looking wave sensor is used in connection with a feed-forward wave impact shock predictor to determine characteristics of impending dynamic forces applied via the impact of the watercraft on waves. Information concerning the impending dynamic forces is used by a passenger seat suspension and control system to attenuate the shock effects on passengers, where such effects are characterized by large-amplitude, short-duration accelerations recurring at a low frequency and/or irregularly.
