    Abstract: A process for delignifying and bleaching a lignocellulosic pulp without the use of elemental chlorine or chlorine-containing compounds by oxygen delignifying the pulp to a K No. of about 14 or less and a viscosity of greater than about 10 cps and thereafter further delignifying the partially delignified pulp by lifting, displacing and tossing the pulp in a radial direction while advancing it in an axial direction in a plug flow-like manner with an effective amount of ozone for a sufficient time to obtain a substantially delignified pulp having a K No. of about 6 or less, a viscosity of at least about 7 cps and a GE brightness of at least about 35. The substantially delignified pulp may then be brightened to a final product having a GE brightness of at least about 75, or alternately up to about 83 or more by contacting the ozonated pulp with chlorine dioxide or a peroxide compound.

    Abstract: A recycling container is provided with an outer container formed with a flase bottom for supporting four inner containers for respectively receiving three different recyclables and the regular garbage of a family's refuse. The inner containers, which are of different sizes, have shapes complementary to the outer container and each other to make for a compact arrangement. Below the false bottom, the outer container houses a drawer of dimensions adequate to hold the family's newspapers received between pickup collections. Of course, the recycling container is sized so as to hold the different elements of the family's refuse between collections. The largest of the inner containers may be essentially a semi-cylinder to contain the regular garbage. A cover having two portions pivotally interconnected by a life hinge, may be placed on the outer container so that one portion overlies the inner container that is a semi-cylinder and the other portion overlies the other three inner containers.

    Abstract: A disk cartridge file employs a cartridge which is a rigid enclosure containing a flexible information storage disk mounted on a drive hub. One wall of the cartridge comprises a central hub drive aperture and an arcuate radially extending access slot for a read/write transducer. In operation, the disk flies over the inner surface of the apertured wall on an air bearing. This surface is planar over a major portion including the access slot but has a smoothly contoured raised land bordering the slot on the downstream side thereof. When employed in combination with a transducer of the ring stabilized type which projects through the slot and penetrates into the normal path of the medium, the transducer is coupled with the medium in a stable closely spaced air bearing relationship. The raised land extends the range of penetration over which the transducer is coupled, particularly at the outer diameter of the disk.
