  • Patent number: 5943462
Abstract: A cable assembly fitting is provided to connect fiber optic to optoelectronic equipment. An elongated housing includes a front end, a back end and an axial bore extending between the front and back ends. The axial bore further defines a first portion, a second portion, and an intermediate stepped portion. A cap is fit into the back end of the housing. Fiber optic cable is contained within a cable jacket and has fibers protruding therefrom. The fibers have a mediate span and rigid sleeve thereon. A water impervious barrier is positioned adjacent the rigid sleeve. A shrink tubing is disposed around the fiber optic cable.

  • Patent number: 5436994
Abstract: An improved fiber optic connector of the type in which a fiber supporting ferrule is slidably and resiliently biased independently of the surrounding load-bearing parts of the connectors so that forces applied to the fiber optic cable jacket are not transmitted to the ferrule and supported fiber to interrupt communications then in progress. The connector is substantially fully assembled prior to interconnection with the cable, and requires the introduction of an epoxy or other suitable adhesive to secure the fiber within the ferrule which is provided by a syringe. The needle of the syringe is inserted into a positioning tube which confines the adhesive to the needed area, and prevents wicking of the adhesive to surrounding areas where it might interfere with the sliding action of the ferrule. It also wipes the needle of adhesive as it is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 5187768
Abstract: A fiber optic connector having an adjustable element providing for optical signal attenuation. The connector includes a pair of plug connector elements maintained in axially aligned relation upon engagement with a medially positioned adapter element. One of the plug connector elements incorporates the adjustable element, movement of which varies the gap existing between the aligned ends of the optical fibers without relative rotation between the end surfaces of the fibers.
