  • Publication number: 20040001757
Abstract: Airfoils and grooves on the rotor or carrier for the airfoils have generally complementary dovetail shapes. The airfoils are installed in the grooves by sliding the bases of the airfoils along the circumferential grooves into final circumferential positions. At each circumferential position, a pin is driven between the base of the airfoil and the bottom of the groove to displace the airfoil radially into a final radially secured position taking up the clearance necessary to enable sliding movement of the airfoils about the groove. A first tool is used to drive each pin in a generally tangential direction by hammering on the end of the tool, transmitting an axial force to the pin. When the circumferential clearance of the last installed airfoil is insufficient to permit further use of a tangentially oriented tool to install additional airfoils, a second tool having an angled head is disposed into the groove to engage the pin.

  • Patent number: 6410084
Abstract: A method of treating a membrane (16) comprises the steps of providing a membrane (16) with a structure of node (22) and fibrils (24). Surfaces of the nodes (22) and fibrils (24) define a plurality of pores (26) extending through the membrane (16). The membrane (16) is made from an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene material. A water-based dispersion of oleophobic fluoropolymer solids in a water-soluble solvent is provided. The dispersion has surface tension and relative contact angle properties such that the diluted dispersion is incapable of wetting the polytetrafluoroethylene material of the membrane (16). The dispersion is diluted with a liquid wetting agent so the diluted dispersion can wet the membrane (16). Surfaces of the nodes (22) and fibrils (24) are coated with the solids in the diluted dispersion. The wetting agent material and other fugitive material are removed.

  • Patent number: 6341776
Abstract: The present invention is directed to providing a product delivery apparatus which includes a fan wheel or the like having a modified arrangement for interacting with a product feed device, to enhance the control with which products are delivered into the pockets of the fan wheel. In accordance with exemplary embodiments, characteristics of the fan wheel are adjusted with regard to the product feed to accommodate product delivery requirements. More particularly, exemplary embodiments are directed to modifying a fan wheel to include a receiving area in each fan tip for receiving a product feed device (e.g., conveyor belt, tape drive, roller and so forth), such that the product feed devices can be placed in alignment with the fan blades of the fan wheel. Such a feature provides better control of the products as they are transported into the fan blades, since the product feed can be placed in closer proximity to a fan arrangement along the direction of product transport.

  • Patent number: 6258357
Abstract: The development of graft versus host disease in a mammalian patient undergoing cell transplantation therapy for treatment of a bone marrow mediated disease, is prevented or alleviated by subjecting at least the T-cells of the allogeneic cell transplantation composition, extracorporeally, to oxidative stress, in appropriate dosage amounts, such as bubbling a gaseous mixture of ozone and oxygen through a suspension of the T-cells. The process may also include irradiation of the cells with UV light, simultaneously with the application of the oxidative stress. The oxidative stress induces reduced inflammatory cytokine production and a reduced proliferative response in the T-cells.
