  • Publication number: 20140118112
Abstract: A system for inserting alert based information into broadcast programming over a program distribution network. A program distributor transmits broadcast programming over program distribution network via a network fabric. When program distributor receives alert based information, the program distributor converts the alert information from a first format to a second format compatible with the broadcast programming and the program distributor inserts the converted alert into a signal carrying the broadcast programming via the network fabric. • Patent number: 7131135
Abstract: A method for automatically defining or learning the configuration of a television interconnected with a plurality of peripheral devices utilizes a digital control channel to define the analog interconnections. This method does not require the consumer to know the specific configuration of the system. The system functions properly whether peripheral devices are in the video chain path or not. This method enables a suser to simply connect peripheral devices to any one of the multiple inputs of the video processing apparatus. The video processing apparatus employs a systematic process of (1) commanding each of said peripheral devices via a digital bus, such as an IEEE 1394 serial bus, to transmit a signal from its analog output, (2) monitoring the analog inputs of the video processing apparatus to determine which of the inputs receives the transmitted signal, and (3) constructing a map of the analog interconnectivity of each peripheral device connected to said video processing device.

  • Patent number: 7039802
Abstract: A system conditionally establishes a communication channel between two devices only if one device is authenticated by the other device. Authentication of the second device by the first device involves sending a message to the second device; receiving, from the second device, the message encrypted using a private key of the second device and a digital certificate having a public key of the second device; decrypting the digital certificate to obtain the public key, using the public key to decrypt the message and comparing the decrypted message to the message originally sent to the second device.
