  • Patent number: 9001322
Abstract: Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates may be fabricated using a shadow mask assisted evaporation (SMAE) method to provide for enhanced detection sensitivity with respect to target molecules that are located upon, and sensitized by, the SERS enhanced substrates. Such SERS substrates provide a two dimensional array of repeating nanostructures that may include, but are not limited to nano-pillar, nano-nib, nano-elliptical cylinder and nano-triangular tip nanostructures, any of which may be augmented with gold nanospheres. The particular SERS enhanced substrates in accordance with the embodiments, in particular when augmented with gold nanospheres, provide desirably enhanced sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 8954538
Abstract: A method and/or system are described in which a server communicatively coupled with a set-top-box (STB) may predict a location of a pointer on a web browser running on the STB. The server may render the pointer based on the predicted pointer location. The server may send the rendered pointer to the STB, wherein the STB may composite a web page on the web browser based on the rendered pointer. The server may be synchronized with the STB based on event information received by the server from the STB such as, for example, keystroke events, click event, or other like event. The prediction of the pointer location may be based on actual pointer location information provided by the STB. A predetermined number of pointer locations may be predicted based on an actual pointer location and/or on a latency of a connection between the server and the STB.

  • Publication number: 20150038361
Abstract: Methods and systems for colorimetric detection of a target. Nucleic acid is obtained from a sample potentially containing two pathogens of interest, and is contacted with a plurality of nanoparticles. A first portion of the plurality of nanoparticles are functionalized with oligonucleotides complementary to a first region of the first target and oligonucleotides complementary to a second region of the first target, and a second portion of the plurality of nanoparticles are functionalized with oligonucleotides complementary to a first region of the second target and oligonucleotides complementary to a second region of the second target. The presence of the target nucleic acid causes a detectable colorimetric change, thereby diagnosing the presence of the pathogen.

  • Patent number: 8923688
Abstract: Presented herein are systems, methods, and apparatus for improving performance of video decoders during rewind and fast forward operation. Video decoder performance is improved by avoiding repetitive decoding of prediction pictures. When a decoded prediction picture is stored in a frame buffer, techniques are presented for decoding multiple pictures in the rewind order which are dependent thereon, displaying the picture directly from the frame buffer, and setting one type of prediction picture as another type of prediction picture.

  • Patent number: 8918509
Abstract: A device determines a portion of data generated by a technical computing environment (TCE) program, where the portion of the data is determined based on an initial availability of a resource of a server device. The device provides the portion of the data to the server device for execution, and receives, from the server device, results associated with execution of the portion of the data. The device calculates an availability of the resource based on the results associated with execution of the portion of the data, and provides, to the server device for execution, additional data generated by the TCE program, where the additional data is determined based on the availability of the resource of the server device. The device receives, from the server device, results associated with execution of the additional data, where the receiving is performed by the device.

  • Patent number: 8918827
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for providing complete Internet anywhere with partial server processing in which a request is sent from a set-top-box (STB) to a server communicatively coupled with the STB to process a portion of a web page that is unsupported by a web browser running on the STB. In one such method, the STB sends to the server an unsupported content request associated with a portion of a web page that is unsupported by a web browser executing on the STB. The STB receives a data stream from the server in response to the unsupported content request. The data stream was generated at the server by processing the unsupported portion of the web page. The STB composites the received data stream with another portion of the web page, that is supported by the web browser, to produce the web page.

  • Patent number: 8861904
Abstract: A reconfigurable optofluidic apparatus includes a microfluidic chip including a microfluidic channel further including an inlet for a liquid core waveguide fluid; a channel pathway for the liquid core waveguide fluid; a plurality of non-core waveguide fluid inlets; a switching chamber having a larger cross sectional area than the channel pathway; and an outlet for the liquid core waveguide fluid and non-core waveguide fluid, further including a plurality of non-liquid core waveguides disposed in the switching chamber. Light input to the apparatus propagates in the liquid core/liquid cladding (liquid) waveguide. The path of the liquid waveguide can be steered in a region of the apparatus over one of the non-liquid core waveguides such that the light is end-fire- or evanescently-coupled into the non-liquid core waveguide and output therefrom or between two of the non-liquid core waveguides and not coupled or output. Associated optofluidic switching methods are disclosed.
