  • Patent number: 8160237
Abstract: A multi-stage differential amplifier and method provides a gain versus frequency warping response characteristic that equalizes a transmission line of a given length to compensate for frequency-dependent attenuation. The warping response characteristic comprises the inverse of the attenuation versus frequency characteristic of the line, and affords a substantially flat system gain response over a predetermined frequency spectrum. The individual amplifier stages employ operational amplifiers, and are designed using SPICE simulations such that the individual responses of the stages are tailored so they combine to provide the required overall warping response to compensate the line.

  • Patent number: 6979987
Abstract: The output voltage of a power converter is controlled by comparing the output voltage to a target output voltage during a first time interval and calculating an inductor current required in a second time interval immediately following the first time interval to increase the output voltage to the target output voltage. A duty cycle of a switch is varied to modify the current in the inductor during the second time interval according to the calculated inductor current. In one embodiment a fixed duty cycle response is provided if the output voltage is less than a predefined maximum and greater than a predefined minimum. In another embodiment the duty cycle of the switch is bounded by a predetermined maximum and minimum value.

  • Patent number: 6909266
Abstract: The output voltage of a power converter is regulated by comparing the output voltage to a target output voltage during a first time interval and calculating an inductor current required in a second time interval immediately following the first time interval to increase the output voltage to the target output voltage in the second time interval. The duty cycle of a switch in the power converter is varied to modify the current in the inductor during the second time interval according to the calculated next current and a saturation current of the inductor. In one embodiment the power converter includes a reference resistor. By measuring the voltage across the reference resistor at certain times various parameters, including coil inductance and capacitor capacitance, are calculated. In some embodiments a linear model of the power converter is used.

  • Patent number: 6906502
Abstract: A power converter output voltage regulation method in which sensed output voltages and sensed currents are stored in a memory during a plurality of time intervals. In each time interval the sensed output voltage and the sensed current is compared with the sensed output voltage and sensed currents in time intervals previously stored in the memory. If preceding data are found to match the most recent data, an open loop response is applied. If the most recent data and stored previous data do not match, a closed loop response is applied.
